~Overview~
So weaving is an awesome skill for dexterity, so a must for any archers out there. One of the main reasons is because of the low Ability Point/Dexterity ratio. For only 41 Ap total your getting a total of 43 dex, so in the end weaving is worth the time you put into it. Below is a chart from the Mabinogiworld wiki site giving the break down summery of the ap and dex earning per rank.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W01.png]
In weaving you will be making fabrics, silks, threads, braids, leather straps and such from raw materials that can be found all over the different continents. All of these products you make can be used in other skills such as blacksmithing, tailoring, carpentry, synthesis, production mastery, and handicraft. Or you can sell what you make for a decent profit. As an alternative to gathering all the materials to rank weaving it is possible to buy them in stacks off other players such as leathers which can vary on gathering time, due to the randomness of drops. Though, buying all the materials to get you from rank F to rank 1 can become extremely costly.
Another thing about weaving is the fact that you do not need any fails unlike its mining counterpart skill refining. I highly recommend that anyone looking at weaving completes refining before doing weaving for one reason. The main thing being obviously that you do not require any fails in ranking weaving, and the fact that the amount of dex you have adds to the success rate. Seeing as refining actually does require fails, it will be harder to get refining done when you do weaving first, also weaving is a lot more time consuming then refining when it comes down to it (for most people at least). So not only will doing refining first, help your weaving out, but it also means the skill is done. Also it always looks good on someone’s part to have rank 1 refining.
Okay, so this guide will include the general information about each weaving rank, where you can gather materials for each rank, as well as a few tips and tricks to help make ranking it easier. But warning weaving is a long skill to rank and sometimes it can be discouraging, don’t give up! Keep at it and you will be laughing at the lazy people who don’t have rank 1 weaving when you’re done!
~Handy Tips and Tricks before you start~
Alright so one here is a brief list of tips and tricks that may come in handy when you are training this skill. I will make references to any of these when they can be used to help you out at each rank.
Higher Dexterity
Like I stated above the higher your dex is the higher your percent for success will be. Make use of this! Have refining ranked before you start weaving. Having some other skills to bring up your dex will also help. Most life skills bring dex up, as well as all range skills. Also counter attack also brings up your dex a bit too, though I do not recommend ranking counter attack only to get dex for weaving when there are way better/useful skills that can be ranked to achieve dex faster. Note that as high as your dex may be, it will only add to your success rate at up to 180 dex, after that it no longer affects your success rate.
Rain
The heavier it rains the more a boast to your percent. (Yes, this is a basic thing that most people know but it is still important so I am mentioning it). Another thing though, if you don’t feel the need to wait around for bad weather, if you have a decent rank of rain casting, then it can help bring your percent up. If you don’t have a good rank of rain casting, find an alchemist who can help you out! Also rain casting as a source of percent boasting is not just for weaving, it can be used for other various life skills, as well as production-type of alchemy skills (synthesis, fragmentation, crystallization, etc.).
Production Mastery
This will add to your percent, having rank one will give you max stamina, add to your dex, and also add to your overall success percent, so having a higher rank helps.
Production Party
Another basic thing is production parties. Be in a party with some friends, it will boost your percent, the more people the better. Okay so how this works is the rank of everyone’s production mastery adds a modifier. The total combined value of everyone’s production mastery modifier is added together to create a single bonus that everyone in the party receives. Another thing is the fact that people with higher ranks of the same skills add more. So other people with higher ranks of weaving will add more of a bonus then someone with a lower rank. A Final note is that anyone on a mount will not contribute to the bonus.
Production Day
Alright so Monday is production day; your percent will be higher then. So it might be best if you can not reach 99% success with your dex, the weather and such, wait for Mondays, it’s possible to gather all the materials you need during the week, and then do all your weaving on Mondays.
Drop Days
Tuesdays is drop days in dungeons. The main thing is this only applies in dungeons, but on Wednesdays it is drop day in nature. So any materials you are gathering from dungeons, do this on Tuesdays, any materials you intend on gathering from nature do on Wednesday.
Done generation 11?
Everyone who completes generation 11 receive their very own Brionac! Brionac can be used to help you train your skills, by sacrificing part of it’s durability you can contribute to your skill training. Brionac only looses 0.75 of durability every time you train weaving. And it can only be used to train skills every 12 hours real time.
Weaving Gloves
Alright so weaving gloves are used to increase the chances of getting a either fine or finest, silk or fabrics, depending on what you buy. You need gloves in order to make silks, but they are not required in order to make fabrics. If you do not have 99% success rate, they can bring your percent up a little bit as well. These gloves can be expensive and the fine and finest gloves can only been worn to make 10 fabrics or silks before they run out of durability and no longer have an effect. It doesn’t matter if you bless them or not. As for professional silk weaving gloves, these have to be tailored by someone, they have a maximum of 25 durability so they do last longer, but they do not offer the same fine/finest silk boast that the gloves you buy do.
Fabric Rates
This below is a chart showing the chances of getting each different quality of fabric at each rank.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W15.png]
Silk Rates
This below is a chart showing the chances of getting each different quality of silk at each rank.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W24.png]
Cheap, Common, Fine and Finest Leathers
Okay so this is probably deemed the hardest material to gather for weaving, mainly because of the inconsistency of drops. Now first of all as mentioned dungeon drop rate is increased on Tuesdays, and nature drops are increased on Wednesday. So choose your gathering days and location choice around these two days of the week.
Cheap Leather
If you intend on buying cheap leather, because it’s so common it doesn’t cost much, but it is also not picked up often or sold often because of how easy it is to get. One of the most common places to gather cheap leather is in Ciar dungeon, goblins are the monsters that drop them, so you need to do either normal or just the beginner’s dungeon, passes available at Ranald. Another dungeon that you can receive an okay amount of cheap leathers from is Longa, the location varies but it is always just south of Fillia. As for shadow missions basic shadow missions, cheap leathers are the most often leather drop in basic missions. On a final note, if you don’t actually need the cheap leather straps afterwards, another option is part time jobs; there will be a section below on part time jobs that can be used to help train weaving.
Common Leather
Common leather doesn’t cost that much money due to the fact that it isn’t rare, but because it is used in a lot of different products so the price range for common leather isn’t that expensive but it’s not as cheap as cheap leather is obviously. Alright so for common leather, Math dungeon drops then quite often, so if you are going to go hunting kobolds for common leather I suggest going on Tuesday. There are also kobolds just north-east of Bangor in the area. There is a few other monsters that drop common leather as well but they do not drop quite as often. If you are hunting kobolds in this area it would be best to go here and get leathers on Wednesday.
Fine Leather
This is a fine line of buying or hunting, because it is a rare drop, it can take some time to gather all the leathers you need, but it can become extremely costly if you decide buying them would be better for you. Fine leather is one of the more rare leather drops next to finest. Also advance shadow missions often drop fine leathers.
Finest Leather
It’s one of the most expensive leathers to buy so I do not suggest buying mainly because in Hard shadow missions it is extremely easy to get these drops and as well as through other monsters. The snakes in Ciar Advance dungeon drop finest leathers frequently as well.
In Conclusion…
Now when making leather straps you need a knife/sword of some sort in your hand in order to cut the leather, unlike when making threads/braids/strings where you can not have anything in your hands.
Cobwebs, Thin threads and Silks
Cobwebs stack in piles of 5, and they only take up a single square.
Alright so there are a few different locations that you can gather cobwebs from to make thin thread and then make silks.
~Tir Graveyard
~Alby Dungeon
~West Dunbarton
~South of the advancement test arena/North of Emain Macha
Now there is a special thing with the spiders of Emain. They are subject to a little glitch that can allow you to get them to stay in a single place and continually make cobwebs. Here is a link to a youtube video that shows you how to properly do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR21TxO5FKQ
Spider Pets
Now there are spider pets, though the guardian spider was limited edition it, like the other spider can produce cobwebs, remember that when it makes a cobweb it looses 5 mp for it. If you want to camp your own spider’s cobwebs I suggest having mp potions on hand. Also when it reaches age 5, it will have a larger mp pool, but when it gets all the way to age 10, it will have decreased. It is best to level your spider while it is age one in order to give it the most possible mp for when it hits age 10 and older.
~White Flame Spider
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/FPS1.gif]
~Guardian Spider – Limited Time Only
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/Spider_Guardian1.gif]
Wool, Think threads and Fabrics
Wool stack in piles of 5, and take up a total of 4 squares in your inventory (2x2).
Alright so one of the necessary things you are going to be stuck doing during your journey to ranking weaving, is making fabrics. So here are the locations of sheep in the world.
~Tir Chronail – Moon Gate Area
~Tir Chronail – Grassland
~Dugald Asle north path and south path
~West Dunbarton
~Outside of Quilla Base Camp
~East of Filia
~South of Tara
~North-East of Emain Macha
Now there is another special thing about weaving in emain for all those out there with wolf pets. This glitch involves using your wolf pet to glitch lock the sheep into the fences so they are unable to move and make you fail gathering. Here is a link to a youtube video of how to stick sheep onto the fence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8XfPPMe4iE
Now another thing is that sheep can give you roughly 20 wool in one sitting, 26 wool if it is raining and about 30 wool when there’s a thunderstorm, though I don’t expect anyone to sit around waiting for a thunderstorm when there are normally a lot of sheep in the same area, and it is really easy to just walk to another sheep to start.
Sheep Pets
Alternatively you can have a sheep pet, they’re were two sheep pets released, one of which was the black sheep, and that was sadly limited edition so it is unavailable now. The thing about sheep though is that for every piece of wool you shear off of them they loose 5mp for it, you either need to keep mp potion for it, or only use it sparingly. The second thing about this is that yes when they reach age 5 they have a larger max mp, after that they will decrease their max mp when they age. It is best to level your sheep while it is age one in order to give it the most possible mp for when it hits age 10 and older.
~White Sheep
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/WSH1.gif]
~Black Sheep – Limited Time Only
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/BLS1.gif]
Mana Elixers
If you have friends willing to help you and someone with a pet sheep, mana elixers are another valid option for those of you who have some spare nx laying around. Try to get as many people as possible doing this, all with a few wool bags in their inventories as well as upgraded gathering knifes. This will allow for people to get a good amount of wool quickly and when they give you their pouches or mail them to you, you can make a lot of thick thread off of it. I have done this before and in about 40mins or so, four other people and myself were able to make well over 60 stacks of thick thread.
Gathering Knife Upgrades
Alright so it is possible to gather wool using any type of knife or sword but, I suggest that you use a gathering knife mainly because you can upgrade it in ways that would best suit your shearing needs. So there are a few different ways we can go about this so below I’m going to give you some upgrade options, the following pictures are from the wiki page on tool upgrades, these are screenies of the chart.
Now if you are using a normal gathering knife it starts with the stats shown in the chart below. The other option is getting a gathering knife that is a drop from a goblin in Ciar, which can start with 14 durability. Whatever you decide to do there is two paths you can choose from after that.
With the first upgrade you can either choose to add a slight speed increase or you can add an extra 10 max durability to the knife.
After that your next three upgrades will be speed increases the same speed increase shown just above.
Now for the final upgrade is the part where people become unsure of what they would like to do, you can either get another speed decreasing upgrade that decreases more then the initial ones that we have used so far.
Or the other option is to do an upgrade that gives you a chance of getting two wool when shearing. What you decide is up to you, but I do recommend that whatever choice you decide upon, that you keep the knife blessed. This way there is a better chance of successful repairs and your knife will last longer when you are out there shearing for long periods of time.
Wool Pouches
Alright so wool can stand normally in groups of 5, but they take up a total of 4 squares (2x2) in your inventory. This takes up a lot of space, so wool pouches are a great remedy for that. To get wool pouches it is a little exploration ques.
In this quest you talk to Alexina because it is a level 4 quest. Then you take your sketch paper out to the pillar, sketch it and then pin it on the exploration quest board. You can do this same quest as many times as you wish and you will always get a wool pouch for it. Each wool pouch takes 4 squares (2x2) the same as a normal stack of wool, except it holds up to 20 pieces of wool, these will save you a lot of inventory space.
Part Time Jobs
Alright so NPCs are your new employers. Some of them offer part time jobs that can be used to help you train weaving, below are some clipped pieces of the part time job charts, these NPC offer possibilities to train the skill but you will not be able to use the products you make with these.
Walter – General Store (Dunbarton)
Beginner
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/BasicWaltersPTJ.jpg]
Intermediate
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/waltersptjint.jpg]
Advanced
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/waltersptj.jpg]
Fragmentation
If you know someone who can fragment your products in order to reuse them, though this is up to you. It is an option and it is your own personal choice if you wish to do this. The reason I say do at your own risk is simply because there is no guarantee that you get the same amount of materials back that you used to make it, and unless you can get someone with a higher rank of fragmentation and alchemy mastery, I don’t suggest wasting your products this way. Note: You can do this with silks, and fine/finest fabrics, you cannot do this with cheap and common fabrics because they can be bought from a vendor.
Weaving Materials
Alright so here is the list of the materials used to make each item that you will need to produce in order to rank this skill.
Thick Thread ball – 5 pieces of wool
Thin Thread ball – 5 Cobwebs
Cheap Leather Strap – Cheap Leather
Common Leather Strap – Common Leather
Fine Leather Strap – Fine Leather
Finest Leather Strap – Finest Leather
Braid – 1 thick thread, 1 thin thread
Tough Thread – 5 thick thread balls
Tough String – 5 thin thread balls
Success Rates
This chart outlines the base production percent rates.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W28.png]
Monsters out of mana?
If the animals you are harvesting run out of mana, instead of killing them or waiting for the mp to come back, try changing channels, its much faster then waiting.
~Obtaining the Skill~
Alright so first of all for humans and giants wishing to start weaving you talk to Malcon in Tir using the “skills†key word with cobwebs in your inventory. For elves, you talk to the Lepus using the “skills†keyword in order to get the skill. You will begin at the novice/practice rank.
~Novice/Practice Rank~
So for this rank it is pretty basic as to what needs to be done. I suggest trying to make thick thread, because it is easiest to make and will have the highest success percent at the beginning of your training.
[Image: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n112/Polloloco76/Mabiplayer/W11.png]
~Rank F~
Alright so for rank F you do not even need to touch the fabrics or silks. Instead to rank faster and more efficiently you want to make threads for this rank. Out of all the options for this rank the things with the highest success rate will be the thread balls, also you can get off on just making threads this rank and then save the materials for later ranks. To complete this rank it is best to start by doing the thin thread balls, they alone will get you 3-quarters of the way done your rank. Pick one of the spots shown above to gather spider cobwebs from and fill your inventory.
Once you complete all the thin thread balls, you can start making thick thread balls. Make sure to carry some wool pouches as well as have a good gathering knife. I recommend saving the thread balls for later ranks as it will save you a decent amount of time, if you do not wish to, you can sell them for a profit.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W12.png]
~Rank E~
Alright so there is a bit of leaning room with this rank. First of all would be the thin threads, it’s a fast way to get over half of your rank done so start off gathering your cobwebs and making thread. This will give you 60 points. Now the second option is your choice, you are going to end up making cheap leather straps for this rank, you can also make thick threads along with that. Thick threads will only get you another 14 points, totaling 74 points. So if you choose to do thick threads as well you will only need to do a total of 26 cheap leather straps. If you choose not to, you will need to make a total of 40 cheap leather straps. If you do choose to make the threads I recommend that you save them for later ranks. Or you can sell what you make, mind you that cheap leather straps are materials in very few items so they do not sell for a lot.
[Image: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n112/Polloloco76/Mabiplayer/W13.png]
~Rank D~
Alright so rank D is one of the first “hell ranks.†This will be the first bump on your way to rank 1 weaving. So to start off we have an easy 30 points that can be achieved by making thin threads. Also another easy 50 points making cheap leather straps. Now we have 20 points left that you can do a few ways. You can use the thin threads made in both this rank and previous ranks to make cheap silks. Then making thick thread balls will get you another 7 points. So you should have 3 points left over. If you kept all the thick thread balls that you’ve made so far then you can use them to finish up making fabrics. Now on to rank C!
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W14.png]
~Rank C~
So right after the first major bump in the road, we have an easy rank. This rank you will have to make 143 threads to rank. Pick a spot and start gathering those cobwebs.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W16.png]
~Rank B~
So this rank can be evil or good. Start off by making your thin thread balls, put those away when you’re done or sell them for profit but keeping them will help you in the long run. After you get that easy, 25 points make some cheap leather straps. There are places to gather cheap leathers stated above in that section under tips, also part time job opportunities in which you can get training for up to 30 leathers.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W17.png]
~Rank A~
Ah everyone remembers rank D…this is another bump in the road. Alright so first thing to do is get the thin threads out of the way. Secondly you want to get the cheap leathers done as fast as you can, do part time jobs as well as gather leathers on your own. Thirdly when you reach rank A you can now complete the little skill quest for weaving, this requires you to make 10 common fabrics. If you have some left over thick threads, still this is the time to use them, you hopefully are lucky enough to get some fine and finest fabrics as well to train the skill. Once you complete the quest you can now, either use some of the thin threads you have saved up to make cheap silk or, you can continue with fabrics.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W18.png]
~Rank 9~
Okay so on to the numbered ranks. So first things first, more cheap leather straps and you will be starting on braids as well. This will get you over halfway to the next rank. Now Walter has beginner’s part time jobs that allow you to train this skills. Take these chances, it will greatly help your training and it is less materials that you need to make/gather. Now for here you are better off making silks but if you wish to make fabrics that’s your choice. At rank 9 there is about a 6% chance of getting finest silk, wearing a glove brings that percent up by another 6.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W19.png]
~Rank 8~
So this rank is pretty self explanatory, you are going to need a lot of thin threads. Make sure that throughout this rank you are using finest weaving gloves. They will add to your chances of getting the finest silk you need. You can either sell the silks or save them for another skill that you may use them for materials in, but as a warning to pay for the gloves can be costly, so if you don’t have the money for them, I suggest selling the silks you make to pay for weaving gloves that you will need.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W23.png]
~Rank 7~
Alright so I hope everyone looking at this likes Math dungeon! You can do all of this rank off common leathers, and it has both advantages and disadvantages. You cannot predict the drop of leathers but do this on drop days people, it helps! If you intend on doing more then that, the same experience can be gotten from doing finest silks, but it will only take you half way through the rank, and the chances of getting finest silks are not the highest, so it’s your choice on what you decide to do, but I highly recommend doing common leathers.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W25.png]
~Rank 6~
Alright so fine leathers is most likely your best bet here, but common leather straps can still help you out a great deal. Continue in math dungeon you can get both in there, as well as there are some monsters in shadow missions that drop fine leathers to help you out. It would be better to save your fine leathers for the next rank instead of now, so do part time jobs and common leather straps. You can also gather cobwebs in between these times and make silks to help the training along. Don’t forget your weaving gloves!!!
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W26.png]
~Rank 5~
Alright so this rank you can start making some of those fine leather straps. Use part time jobs to help you with them! Also you will begin making tough strings. Any thin threads you have left over from the previous rank would help you along with this. Remember fine leathers can be expensive to buy if you intend on making the straps yourself. Make sure you make all your tough string first though, that is an easy 45 points compared to you making a lot of fine leather straps.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W27.png]
~Rank 4~
Alright so this rank is pretty balanced out, now I do suggest that you focus on doing the tough strings first, mainly because of the fact that they are more useful or commonly used in skills much before tough thread is. It would be easier to sell or use the strings then it would the thread. So make sure your gathering a lot of cobwebs and wool to complete this rank. Use some of the videos above on how to help with the gathering of these two materials.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W29.png]
~Rank 3~
Okay so, in this rank it is best to start by finishing the tough threads. This will get you over half done the rank and then you will only need to make 134 finest leather straps, yes it seems like a big number but it is a lot better then doing the full 150. You want to try and use the least amount of finest leather straps as possible due to the fact that it is the most expensive of all the leathers and the rarest for drops.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W30.png]
~Rank 2~
For this rank I would say use the same concept as rank 3, you want to get all your tough threads done with, then you can work on getting the finest leather straps done, it will take a lot of work, but your almost their! You can do it!
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W31.png]
~Rank 1 And Master’s Title~
I highly doubt anyone is up for this but it’s here regardless. You will be required to make all the things on the list, so tackle it anyway that you wish but remember that the everything overall isn’t that hard. The tough strings and threads are basic. As for the finest fabrics and silks, the percent chances of these actually decrease from their previous ranks so it may be a bit harder to obtain some of these, just make sure you use silk gloves. The stats for the master’s title is just bellow the chart.
[Image: http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn333/Sora_Kira/Guide%20Pictures/W32.png]
