A paralysed UK man who put a webcam over his bed over fears nurses were incompetent has suffered brain damage after his life support machine was mistakenly switched off.
Jamie Merrett was starved of oxygen for 21 minutes after his nurse accidentally switched off his breathing apparatus before struggling to resuscitate him, the Daily Mail reported.
The incident was filmed with a webcam Mr Merrett had installed out of fears nurses were not treating him properly.
A note underneath the camera read "This is my webcam. It is for my family to see I am safe. It is recording."
Nurse Violeta Aylward is seen looking at the resuscitation machine and shouting "What do I do with this?" as Mr Merrett struggled to breathe.
Instead of plugging the oxygen tube into the hole in Mr Merrett's neck, Ms Aylward placed it into his mouth.
"What have you done?" another carer asks Ms Aylward after she called for help.
"Jamie, please breathe," Ms Aylward is seen saying to him as he struggling for oxygen.
A paramedic successfully turned the machine back on after 21 minutes, saving Mr Merrett's life but leaving him with severe brain damage.
Mr Merrett was left paralysed from the neck down after a car accident in 2002.
Nurse accidentally turns off man's life support

Yes, irony. Such irony on a prediction.
If the nurse didn't know what to do, the first thing to do is to ask for help.

This is terrifying. Such incompetence. Hopefully with the evidence, the person gets fired.

Their family will want the nurse's head on a plate.
But how did he survive for 21 minutes without oxygen :what:

Severe brain damage?
If I were that man's family member, I'd sue her for all she's got.

Good thing they caught this on the webcam, but it's terrible for the man and his family. I bet she's gonna get fired.
