As you all know, rA weaving is rather annoying to train since you have to get over 20 points of training with fabrics or cheap silks. My question is: Which should I do? Fabrics or Silks?
Basically, I need 20 points of weaving training, and it can be broken down as follows.
I need 19.58 more points of weaving training for rank up.
Making Cheap Silks give me 0.08 Exp each
Making Common Fabrics give me 0.05 Exp each
Making Fine Fabrics give me 0.10 Exp Each
Making Finest Fabrics give me 0.20 Exp Each.
Simple enough, and many people suggest going for cheap silks because it's easy to make. HOWEVER!
Recently, the prices of Fine and Finest Fabrics have rose in the Tarlach server, and I am also ranking tailoring myself. Silks are easy to get while rafting, but Fine Fabrics cannot be obtained this way. Because of this, the Fine Fabrics are in extremely high demand.
I would like to ask the community to help me on this dilemma. Here are some other clarifications:
1) I have two upgraded gathering knives. Although it's a pain-in-the-ass to repair them, they are very effective in gathering wool.
2) I have extensive knowledge on trapping sheep and can make a sheep farm with no problem
3) My main goal is to finish weaving, not make money. However, I merely thought that while ranking weaving, it would be nice to make a bit of gold here and there.
Conclusion: Fabrics can give more exp, and can sell for a decent amount of cash, but takes longer and more effort to make than silks.
Silks, while simple, will require more and will not sell for much money.
Help is greatly appreciated

If you are going thick thread, then put ur mules by simon for the ptj that gives you a stack of thick thread.

Great Suggestion, but it's not difficult to collect 25 wool (takes up 1 and 1/4 of a wool bag), and with sheeps trapped, I can collect them within a few seconds

Oh, I meant it as a side job.
When I was ranking weaving, I cut wools until 12PM mabi time then went on my mules to do simon ptj.
I didn't mean you to do only ptj and nothing else.

Can you collect wool in Dunbarton? I usually do it in Tir Chonaill or Emain Macha =P

I would say go for the silks because they are a lot easier/faster to make than fabrics and honestly, the success rate of fabrics is so low it's not worth it. My guild leader has rank 1 weaving and even using the gloves, we barely got any finest or fine fabrics out of a whole inventory full of thick threads.

You'll probably get common fabrics 80% of the time even with gloves.
If you go the silk path, you'll probably get cheap silk 80% of the time and you can frag them after.
Weaving isn't a great way to get money. You can raft and get the materials 100 times faster.

Silks before cloth.
If you really can spend then do cloth by all means for Rank A.

I find overall I get a decent amount of fine and finest fabrics, even when I don't have gloves on, I sell a lot of them and make a good amount of money off it. Rank A was a total pain to do though...I enjoyed when my guild members would help me with it, we would get a mana elixar and camp someone's pet sheep, and when they filled a wool bag, they would trade me for an empty one while I made threads. In an hour I had well over 60 stacks of thread and this was with only 4 people helping me.

I am going to assume that you have a 99% to actually make the fabric and the silk.
Cheap Silks: 0.08 Exp; 64.5% chance to make per attempt; average .0516 skill gain per attempt
Common Fabrics give me 0.05 Exp each; 36.4% chance to make per attempt; average .0182 skill gain per attempt
Making Fine Fabrics give me 0.10 Exp Each; 22.2% chance to make per attempt; average .0222 skill gain per attempt
Making Finest Fabrics give me 0.20 Exp Each; 14.7% chance to make per attempt; average .0294 skill gain per attempt
Total average skill gain per attempt:
Silk: .0516
Fabric: .0698
Fabric is better for skill gain at a per attempt level. The only question is how long it takes you to make the thread for each attempt.

I went the silk route for this rank, if I remember. Collecting webs is so much easier, and cheaper for my poor knives.

Mana Elixers are rather expensive though, but it is a good idea. Nonetheless, I can trap at least 15 sheep in Emain Macha within a short period of time, so it won't be too much of a hassle.
P.S. Thanks for your weaving guide :thumb:

I do believe this is worth a +rep. This will be very helpful in making my final decision. Thanks!!

So true, so true...
After rA though, Until r5, wool becomes non-existent, lol xD
