'Gay dog' refused entry to Adelaide restaurant
An Adelaide restaurant that refused a blind man entry because a waiter thought his guide dog was "gay" has been ordered to apologise and pay compensation.
Ian Jolly was told he could not take guide dog Nudge into the Thai Spice last May because a member of staff objected, The Sunday Mail reported.
The restaurant's owners said a misunderstanding had arisen between Jolly's female companion and a waiter who understood the woman "to be saying she wanted to bring a gay dog into the restaurant".
"The staff genuinely believed that Nudge was an ordinary pet dog which had been desexed to become a gay dog," the owners said in a statement to South Australia's Equal Opportunity Tribunal.
The tribunal on Friday ordered the restaurant to pay Jolly $1500 and offer him a written apology for discriminating against him on the grounds of disability.
The restaurant, which displays a "guide dogs welcome" sign, refused to comment to the newspaper and was unavailable to respond on Sunday.
Jolly told the Sunday Mail he was happy with the result.
"I just want to be like everybody else and be able to go out for dinner, to be left alone and just enjoy a meal," he said.

And this article made me realise that MY DOG IS ALSO GAY. @_@
/desexing doesn't actually make them gay :P

I've heard of actual gay animals before, which is used as an argument against religions who say homosexuality is a sin (how can animals sin?). But I never actually seen it going on.... which is probably a good thing.

If you look at it from psychological perspective it makes sense how animals could be gay and not sin.

I agree, poor guy. I'm wondering how i didn't see this on news since I get a lot of random stuff from other places in Australia on TV.

I can't find out what does being gay have to do with being/not being a guide dog. It is still a guide dog in that situation.

I agree with you completely. It's not like that it being gay will make it not able to do it's job.

I lol'd at a written apology.
The guy is blind, he can't read it.
Unless they use Braile.

The article title is horribly misleading.
The restaurant doesn't allow dogs, the person to whom he was speaking misheard him and thought he said he wanted to bring a gay dog inside rather than a guide dog. Naturally, they refused. It wasn't because the dog was gay but because it was a dog.
I think it's silly that they have to pay all that money over a misunderstanding. Whatever happened to people who didn't cry blood over the littlest things?

Seriously though...
How can you misprounce GAY and GUIDE...?
That gotta be one hell of an accent...

I imagine the waitress just wasn't paying enough attention the first time and instead of explaining the situation the offended just went ballistic ultimately resulting in this. One would be surprised what a little attitude check can prevent sometimes.

Sometimes, when you've think the other person is crazy.
He or she is probably just mispronuncing something.
Remember, asking isn't a crime.

there's no reason to deny guide dogs into a restaurant
what if he falls over or something?
did you know that there's such thing as guide horses?
