is rank f enough?? what is the proper picking rank for these?? i can pick em at novice rank, only it's kind of an inconvenience when i'm partying since it takes so long.

You can pick them at any rank (although you will fail 90% of the time) but r9 allows you to "recognize mana herbs" (you will see blue patches labeled as "mana hebs" instead of "blue herbs"). That's when you don't fail *that* much at picking.

but proper picking rank does not equal identify rank. :T
i wonder if i should learn herbalism to rank f, if there would be any difference at all.

the rank right before as in Rank A is pretty good but ide go for rank 9 herbalism then stop thats all you really need...
rank 9 is identify rank.
also... connous or anthell forget which 1 but 1 of them is great for picking... though so is rafting... (just u dont pick herbs when rafting lol)

well i have no problem obtaining mana herbs~ like when i solo a dungeon / im part of a big party in a dungeon, i can afford to stay behind a few minutes and pick all that i need. just wanted to pick faster for convenience. plus i run alby a couple times a week to train enchant anyways, and they give mana herbs in end chests too. i only need them to make mp100s for money making when i raft.
so i guess since u kinda need to rank it a lot i just wont spend my ap's on it at all. thanks for your replies.

You could raft to get them instead.. xD
If you raft you can get the award 10 iron ingots and 10 mana herbs. That can easily make you a lot of money, and it doesn't take very many stars. (3 big, 1/2/3 small iirc)

I believe there is an herb list on Wiki...
http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/index.php?title=Herb_List
It says that Novice is the "proper" picking rank, but I started to notice a change in picking rates after rD or rC.
at r9, I'm getting successes at around 85% of the time

ahh i think iron ingot + 10 mana herbs is a poor reward. iron ingots are like 1 k each... and i keep all mana herbs i get. for a bit more stars i make way more money than that, using like maybe one charge more.
@joyjason, so the difference comes around rank d / c huh~ that's the answer i was looking for. thanks mucho~

I'd recomend a rank D Herbalism if you're going to rank it just for picking Mana Herbs. At rank D you can pick Golden Herbs too. Only until rank A can you pick anything else: Mandrakes. The ranks inbetween are just identifying ranks and are quite AP costly just for picking herbs. Rank D would be the most efficent rank AP-wise.

But she's not ranking Herbalism for the spike enchant. She's ranking it to pick herbs more efficiently.

A poor reward? Maybe you think that because Iron Ingots are now cheaper. I remember when they used to go for 40k a stack. Now it's around 20k, since they stack up to 20. However, they're still pretty easy to get and getting them almost guarantees you some mana herbs, so you'll almost always have some mana.
