Never heard of any gay problems here in BC either. The local popular radio station has a gay DJ and everyone loves him. Also, I saw two lesbians kissing in the bus line at my university last year and no one had any problems either.
Although I do wonder one thing, which is why a lot of guys seem to like girl on girl action, yet they think guy on guy is disgusting...? Isn't it all homosexual?

As a dude, I feel like I can answer this question for my gender.
Basically, when you watch guy-on-girl, you concentrate on the girl because you're usually interested in the opposite gender. In girl-on-girl, basically, you can look anywhere and feel satisfaction and it's uhh... Hotter...
:\
Guy-on-guy just doesn't feel right at all because a heterosexual male has no interest in seeing two males get busy. It is labelled disgusting because there are no pleasurable qualities for heterosexual males.

Don't give them the pleasure.

o.O
Boys will be boys and sometimes when they are acting like a boy they may act like a girl.
I'm just curious: Do you Americans see negative reactions to things "gay-related" day to day? 'Cuz where I am in the great white north, we don't have major problems with it. Sure, people will throw around the word "gay" like candy on Halloween but we have a few gay, lesbian, metro-sexual, bisexual, etc. people at my school but they don't get bullied.
Men slap each other's butts in sports and whatnot.
Can I smack your booty, Moppy?

Oh haha, that's cool.
They were teenagers too, right? No big deal at that age. Don't see why it should be a big deal at younger ages.
It's always the adults, man. My little brother always used to play Barbie with my sister when he were younger. I never did. I always thought playing Barbie was boring as heck, but he enjoyed it.
He turned out straight. So haha, it doesn't really matter.

My first impression of this article was that the mother has a horrible naming sense.
Her children are named Boo and Squirt... <__<
Boo - a cry or noise made to express displeasure or contempt
Squirt - pip-squeak: someone who is small and insignificant

My reaction:
1) Looked at picture, chuckled at the idea of it.
2) Realized it was for a Halloween Costume, went oh, nothing wrong there.
3) Read through the wall of text.
4) Kid is 5, wanted to be Daph for Halloween, hell, I've seen guys dress up as Britney Spears, same thing.
5) Moms ABC worried about something that's not their problem.
6) Sympathized with the Mom, kids will be kids, he's to young to be worried about crap like that.
What I would've done:
1) ***** Slapped Moms ABC.
All-in-all, I don't see how this is a problem seeing how he's 5 years old and it's Halloween. Though if he dressed up like this daily, I could see the problem as that "costume" is way passed "I'm dressing like a girl". You just don't see normal or gay kids dressing like that anymore.

Yeah!
I find it creepy how some people always dress up as anime/comic book characters and stuff, now that you mentioned it.
But it's Halloween, so it shouldn't be a problem.
