Is the damage in Vindictus controlled by any sort of deviation?
Like the Balance system from Mabinogi, is there anything to see how high you could possibly hit?

Our damage definitely isn't 100% consistent. If I were to guess, it would roughly follow a normal distribution curve though the hill may or may not be at the average of the minimum and maximum.
Vindictus really weirds me out concerning how imprecise and unknowledgable about stats, formulas, and everything mathematical. We don't even get a damage number counter (which would be the key to deriving everything else) and instead only overkills :\

I believe there was a link posted in another thread about how much damage you do and showed all the calculations..It was on one of the scythe evie threads.

I understand that you can calculate the damage, but its not always 1 number every time.
You'll hit more or less than that number, and that usually is the average.
I'm asking is if there's a pattern to the more or less.

Well I would assume the chance of you hitting more or less would be the defense of the monster. Though when you fight a boss and you hit him multiple times with the same smash you do see that the damage does differ. I would not think its a pattern, I would assume its either a percentage off the average or a range around the average.
