I blame school. College registration is also going on. People are too busy.
Ch5 Dunby in Mari was completely empty yesterday with 2 or 3 people being the exceptions. My friend and I were the only ones on in our guild which is something we thought we'd never see. Some people were on but were afk doing homework.
It tends to be much more active during school breaks though.

Mabinogi is grind-heavy and Nexon NA sucks. It's not friendly to nubs (durability/enchants/gameplay/etc) and team-play is almost discouraged.
It needs MOAR castle wars(ie: Fun, team-oriented minigames)
It needs a PVP system that doesn't FAIL HARD.

I still like the game; it gets lonley for sure. An entire guild i knew went to Vindictus. When i compare Mabinogi to Vindictus for example; I find Vindictus just prettier and hack and slash. The only elements. Mabinogi has stradegy; unique game play, mini games and more.
Thats just me.
People have better reasons for choosing other games at this point in time; Hell i play Dynasty Warriors Online when Mabinogi is down or just getting boring, then i realise Dynasty Warriors Online isn't as far off from Vindictus in terms of gameplay and such; just fancier and based off real PS2 games and the like. Most likley; if someone plays for a while; months to a year+ they will move onto another MMO; no one will completely stay. I've played a year and a half btw.

It's really more like in the beginning, mabinogi was more towards party play and this was a good concept because everyone was weak back then. But now as people grow stronger and mabi leans towards the solo play type of experience, the older players yearn for the "good ole times" yet ironically, returning to those times now wouldn't be very practical because one player now can do what 10 players could do in g1.

I have plenty of time to play Mabi but I choose not too because it bores the hell outta me. Guess thats what happens when you play straight for 3 years

It's gotten boring, indeed.
They're going to need a kickass update to revive it. I play in hopes of that.

Still shouldn't be online! I'm doing everything I can to stay awake right now, though, so here I am.

Well, for one, I can say this.
For some reason I cannot comprehend (I'm totally not a fan of PvP), most people exaggeratedly prefer PvP to PvE. The problem with this is that not only is Mabinogi not built for PvP, its PvP system is entirely broken. As in it favors archers to an unfairly strong degree. Granted, the balance has been threatened somewhat by charge and evasion, but any archer with half a brain can still thwart these, and they have some bad cooldowns anyway.
On top of this, losing in any GvE PvP means you get camped, and there is no way to escape other than persistance or leaving your computer until the other guy gets bored.
As for other things... there don't appear to be too many people playing with randoms anymore, and I can kind of feel the influence of that myself. "What will I get out of this? I'll probably be playing with some noob who does nothing but gamble rushes at his enemy."
The game is also heavy on some non-combat grinds as well. Especially if you're doing life skills. This generally tends to bring people down, and it's quite undesirable for most.
Granted, these are problems that have plagued Mabi before, so I don't know why that would contribute to people leaving now, but it should hopefully shed some insight.

I'm guessing Devcat's solution is to make and release Mabinogi 2 instead of reworking everything.

Its not temporary at all.
Ever since Chapter 2 started the game has slowly begun to lose the elements that made Mabinogi a unique and fun mmo and spiraled down a ****storm of failure eventually turning itself into what is known as a GENERIC MMO.
People are only starting to realize this now because the changes are starting to become really obvious at this point.
Quote from Pocoyo;211008:
I think it is still alive a bit but, I think people are quitting due to the general unhelpfulness of the community.
the quotes kinda summed up what I think
it's not really the "game's fault" it can still be played like it was before , people just choose not to, I honestly believe it's entirely because of the community that makes it so terrible now,
though sometimes it would be DEVcat's fault in terms of like G11, really no point in it being entirely solo (cept 1 part)
Royal Alchemists aren't very "abundant" people don't even really become Royal Alchemists to help other players, they do it for the title, suit, damage enchants, and the prestige(?)
I'm kinda hoping the new directors would renew mabi in a sense to correct problems like this (though it confuses me why they're starting to work on Mabi 2, if they're still updating Mabi 1, I'm sure they know most people would like to transfer data if a sequel comes out)

I think they should've kept mabinogi what it was like like in G1. Dungeons and party quests.
Shadow missions get kind of boring for me I dunno why and generation 1 and generation 3 were the best mainstream for me. The newer generations are all about soloing, and that royal alchemist thing is pretty messed up.
That and Vindictus is more fun >_>
