Four Loko.
Caffeine mixed with alcohol, 12% content.
One of these gets you wasted. Two of these gets you sick. Three or more gets ya to a hospital or killed.
Or so I've heard. :what:
It's dubbed "blackout in a can" or "liquid cocaine."
And they're banning it everywhere now since a lot of college students (and high school students) have been coming down with alcohol poisoning and hospitalized.
Stupid kids. :T_T:
They've been talking about how alcohol+caffeine is a bad combo.
But what's so bad about it, besides being wide awake while drunk?

Adding a stimulant to a depressant causes abnormal heart rhythms and future heart problems. Too high blood pressure and a boosted heart rate (which they cause) causes palpitations. Generally you're sending two different messages to your nervous system and it's gonna cause cardiac problems.
Alcohol dehydrates you and caffeine is a diuretic which also causes you to lose water, so it makes the dehydration even worse.
The caffeine will make you feel like you're not as tired and such as you are, which is bad because the "bad" side effects of drinking are your body's way of telling you that it's time to stop.
As for that particular thing... it's a scapegoat. Kinda like rapelay. Rapelay itself isn't particularly bad, it was just used and blown way out of proportions for a political agenda. Same thing's happening here.

I think it has to do with the energy drinking masking the how much alcohol you are taking in. They are 16 oz at 12% alcohol? Lets say u drink 3 in an hour and a half. Thats equal to 12 "light" beers alcohol wise in a very short time. Its pretty easy to see how they are dangerous since you really only feel the alcohol after you crash from the caffeine high.

Thank you! +rep
Still sucks though! Though it should be fine in moderation, but unfortunately, that's something that many crazy college kids don't understand correctly.
haha
One of these gets me so frickin' hyper. Bouncing off the walls kinda crazy! MANNNNNNNNN

I saw one of those cans at a 7/11... Lemme tell you im not surprised. The can itself practically 3x the size of an average budlight. No wonder it trips you up.
Also of course it's for college kids. It stands out more than a can of Bud Light no?

If thats the case then they should take it further and band Jaeger Bombs. It really doesn't matter if they ban this. They can spark other ways to achieve the same odd stimulate/depressant mix.

Biggest problem is that you usually pass out before you drink yourself to death. The caffeine keeps you from passing out, so people literally drink themselves to death.
It's a fine example of Darwinism to me, I don't see any reason to ban it.

Also add to the fact it will cause some bad liver problems.
Plus the mentality being affected by both caffeine and alcohol at the same time... Oh, boy.

I've seen those at my high school.
Many kids talk about how vendors sell it as an energy drink and never check for ID.
My High School talks about it as if it was a drug.

Our school just sent an e-mail about this a few days ago. I didn't even know what these were until I read that e-mail and then looked them up. I don't see the appeal, but I don't see the appeal of alcoholic drinks in general.
