Tried out another style

This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. I keep getting frustrated at myself when I draw anime-style now, so I figured I'd start something else.
Drawing anime now just makes me want to rip my hair out. The style I used to use was very lineart heavy and it took too long. Since I'm not much of a patient person, I tried out a rougher style.

This one's mainly watercolour-based.

The file's actually huge, but photobucket is annoying.

I actually used a lot of black in that one, and the photo I was basing it off was kinda bright, too.

And I was watching some videos online, and some of them painted in complete black and white then used a photoshop gradient map and then adjusted the colour, it was pretty cool, so I might try that.

No black.
Use opposite colors and keep color temperatures in mind. Easiest way to remember at first is= Warm light=cool shadows; cool light, warmer shadows. It makes things pop a bit more. Also, if you're going to have strokes in your shadows, have them parallel, or the shadow will look funny.
