I've been thinking on this for a while but can't get to a decent conclusion.
With r1 cm, crit, smash, wm and FH (and rA defense, but honestly i don't feel the need to rank this more now) and working my way up in life skills for dex for 222 broads. Refining is already at r1 and currently trying to reach r5 weaving (r8 atm) so i can work on carpentry freely without worrying with the high rank materials (rC atm).
Anyway, my prob is what to take next. I can't decide between range or thunder/firebolt.
Thunder would make my life much easier in exploration lving terms (rafting ftw). Harvesting tons of golems each month to get to expl 20 gets boring pretty fast. For me to be doing it for over a year, you guys can understand how repetitive and boring this is now.
However even though my int is over 200, my magic skills are seriously lacking (low mp, low rank magic mastery and bolts, i don't even have Lb and fb lol). And ofc, the over 9000 MP pots problem.
There's always the 2nd pick for expl lving. r1 firebolt and hunt wyverns, less AP but skill use cost should be around the same.
On the other hand is range, r1 would definitely pump my dex to over 200 letting me wear the awesome 222 broads. However to be honest, i suck at range. And most likely I would only rank it to get the dex/str and wouldn't bother to use it.
Also if i were to turn DK, my dex rolls will be seriously lacking since i never ranked eye of order while my str and int would be much better (r1 power, r5 sword)
So, get dex and refine my melee, or thunder/fb to make life easier to lv exploration?
Oh yea, no alchemy.

Dex, you shall not regret it.

Before anything I suggest you get R9 IB or R5 LB. It helps a lot.
I think you should do range. It is very good for rafting and gives you that dex for 222 broads. R1 Range and AR are very good, especially with your dex.
Maybe after that go into magic or finish your combat tab. Although defense doesn't seem important right now, the little bit adds up and so does the +hp.

IB yea, im planning to r9 it because it's my main weapon against black ship rats, I spam rundal siren/adv often. Though not a priority since asides that i only use it to provoke those annoying shadow mobs that only thing they do is spam def/counter for hrs (IB>def>n+mill mostly)
Now lb i doubt i'll ever rank it, mainly due the massive amount of stiff enchants i have. I know i can just switch to lizard, but from experience lizard can be inconvenient when you're lazy to mine for fossils

Range gets better as you rank up.. ...well, range. Besides that, I have been able to raft for ingots with r2 range and rC AR. If you do decide to pick up range, crash shot will get you better rafting.
I'd recommend it if you're looking for an easy way to rank up your dex. Otherwise, thunder would probably be a better choice if all you want is the opportunity to raft.
If you plan to pick up an entirely different skill set to complement your own, range is a weak choice if you plan to do a lot of shadow missions. Damn near everything in shadow missions has ridiculous amounts of protection, which pretty much nullifies most damage archery does, and makes crits quite difficult to do unless you specifically gear for it.

Dex. Good for range. Which is very good for dungeons. Plus magic can easily be ranked anytime.

i guess i'll set with range and then start ranking crash shot for rafting while collecting AR pages. Not going to bother with magnum for now since my smash will obviously outdmg my magnum
Thanks to double rainbow i have almost 200 AP so im able to r1 range now, rb, get tons of AP next week and get ~r5 crash shot. Might not be the best path but it's a start
Thanks guys

Why not rank magnum? Its better in pure damage. If you have high dex than go mag.

Although magnum misses like mad, I often find it a lot better than smash...especially behind some nice barrier spikes. <3

Oh forgot about spikes. Those are the best. Dont you hit spikes when you use crash shot? I know you splash a little when you use magnum.

Honestly i doubt im going to use range in any other situation than rafting at least for now. In other situations like shadow missions i prefer to land a smashmill and pray for a crit using my range.
Asides the 200 dex magnum vs 300 str smash thing, can't say im really that confident in using range/magnum, even if r1, in adv/hard missions.
So, comparing the AP from magnum and crash and where i'd most likely use it, i think crash would come more useful than magnum for now

Well it depends on whether you want to do it fast and die a lot or do it more slowly and not die (or die very little). The first option would be best for party play, but then there's the blessings to think about. The thing is that in actually difficult hard SMs, most monsters will multiaggro (like in The Other Alchemist, Sulfur Spider, etc.), so smashmilling is pretty suicidal even with HP pots and high defense.
My guild leader is like super pro and he has high str/rank 1 all combat/etc., but he still died a lot from smashmilling simply because it's hard to tank a bunch of snow golems hitting you at the same time. Sometimes you don't even have time to use pots.
Also, magnum does splash onto barrier spikes if you're using it on a monster right beside/in front of you. I would assume crash shot would splash even more (probably like windmill), which wouldn't be good to use near barrier spikes.

Crash Shot can not, and will not, chain/splash on barrier spikes of any kind.

In terms of easy exploration exp, it is pretty hard to beat a decent ranked Thunder. Some people have great success with Crash Shot in rafting though, depends on how good are you at not missing.
