I have some questions about Spirit Weapons. Don't worry, I have enough money to maintain them and all, and I've done the quest for an ego. Just some general FAQ, I suppose. Uh, sorry for sounding like a noob, too.
1. Generally, which is easier to maintain? The male or female sword?
2. Would giving the ego Diamonds be the most efficient way of feeding it, or are there better items?
3. If the ego is sheathed (e.g. not main weapon), can it still become unhappy? How about in the inventory?
Thanks in advance. And sorry if asking about egos has become passé already, I just really want to know.
:awesome:

1. Gender doesn't matter for maintenance. They all lose durability/hunger and the same rate.
2. Diamonds are great, especially for social exp. They're just kinda rare and expensive if you buy them. But i wouldn't feed them diamonds at all until you get all the levels up to like level 10 or 15. Just so you aren't wasting a lot of exp since there are exp caps, ya'know.
3. Sheated or in inv doesn't change ego hunger/mood.

1) Female sword tends to have an easier time raising strength because Sandals are easily brought.
2) Diamonds are the fastest way to raise an ego, but also the most expensive. Items that are closest to 999 gold without going over is the most efficient.
3) Nope, like above poster said.

Thanks a lot, you two. I've got my female sword ego now. If I come across any troubles, I'll ask questions as developments come about. Thanks again!

Sandals are the reason to go with a female sword. Keep in mind, however, that the female sword ego is likely the only spirit which won't reach 50 in all stats (not that your weapon will ever get to that point, realistically).
999 gold items are the most efficient method. Random drops from shadow missions (kite shields) are also a good, free alternative. Tipping Suits are worth 230k to NPCs and you can obtain two every time you raft, not sure if they'll boost the stat that you like, but its an option.
As far as gems are concerned, if its not over 8 cm, it's not worth your time. Diamonds, on the other hand, become time-efficient at around 5 cm. 10 cm should cap out rank rank 25. (10% of the total xp required). Gems can only be fed once per state, unlike 999 items which can be fed five times.

This statement is 99.99999999999999% true the only issue is if your a rafter. You can get tipping suits for 5k (or chop 10 wood) from rafting rewards. Once your
male ego hits around 20 str 3 tipping suits (from first unhappy stage) will give more str and more social than filling up with sandals. This is the fastest way to maximize str stat. When I had a male sword I took it from 22-30 in about 7 days just spamming tipping suits I rafted.
