After a month long break from Mabinogi, I have finally come back. Since I am completely done with all of the mainstreams, I'm just gonna do whatever. I was thinking: why not transition into pure magic? I've always been good at ice spamming, and kept a +CC4 wand in my inv.
Problem: No IS. Bigger problem: Too lazy to run anything for pages.
So, either:
1. Get my lazy arse off the ground and do runs. I'm in a guild for a reason.
2. Stay as a tank class.

Pure magic isn't just ice spam though... .-.;; And, for that matter, most mages I see
(Or at least, the one I see most) don't really use IS that much either.
It's all a TH fest or FB nuking rooms.

I see more THers than ISers, TH is ridiculously easy/cheap to get for an intermediate spell. TH seems to also have a better DPS and better rafting potential, so there should probably be no problem in becoming full magic.

I recommend thunder too, because rafting allows you a supply of mana herbs and you will never need to worry about mana if you make your own potions too.
Which also requires to you dabble a little in life skills (herbalism/potionmaking) but it will benefit in the long term.

Icebolt isn't a very useful spell, except to beginners who benefit from the load time at r9 and as a quick method of finishing off opponents. The damage and range are both less than spectacular, despite the mana cost. You'll need a form of intermediate magic or maybe even chaincast firebolt in order to compete with similar ranked players. Hybrid-types will find the higher damage output and lengthier stun duration of lightning bolt much more useful. Human Archers can simply replace Icebolt with Arrow Revolver, the damage output, range and load time easily making up for the accuracy factor.
Lightning bolt is the next step after r9 Icebolt. It adds damage and intelligence for a low AP investment. Magic mastery is likewise important, as are the music-based skills which grant intelligence.
Thunder is the preferred magic for Human mages. It deals high damage to a substantial number of targets and adds the power and versatility that mages need. Ice Spear deals less than spectacular damage at a single charge but chaincasted allows for excellent agro control and spammability, especially for elven mages who benefit from the reduced mana cost. Fireball is preferable, end-game. The high damage, range and area of effect allow players to nuke whole groups of high level mobs, with minimal risk. Blaze is constantly being nerfed to balance its offensive might. It requires a significant amount of intelligence in order to adequetely use the skill. However, it can allow players to deal top-tier damage to small groups of enemies. Hailstorm releases next generation. It's essentially a suped-up icebolt, capable of dealing outstanding damage per second. It sound like something that you would be into.
You'll need mana as well as intelligence, which you'll either have to buy or you'll need to utilize the potion making skill along with rafting in order to supply yourself with dat juice.
If at any point you become disatisfied with magic, Crash Shot is the ranged alternative to intermediate magic.

Tanking and maging go hand in hand.

There's a whole lot more to Magic than
IB -> IB -> IB
If you could become a good mage by spamming Ice Bolt, 90% of Mabinogi would be mages.

If you'd rather get a 409 AP skill which is (imo) not as good as 2 skills at 821AP, then go with Thunder.
I like going either-or though. Either max control and speed (IS) or max damage (FB), which is why I ranked both those two over TH.
Though I am considering it just to break 600mp.
