stopped getting artifacts because of this

now imagine trying to figure where the *beep beep* from a chest comes out. Plus the stupid bug that makes all chests vanish. It's annoying to find a chest, try to kill the guardians, and once they're dead chest vanishes

Ah, I use mods, so I can easily spot the chest whenever I uncover it. That used to be a big problem before though.

You can't really get to level 15 exploration in 2 rafts since realistically, each raft trip will give you around 8k each when glitch is gone. However, you will get it at 3 rafts, which takes a total of 45 minutes. Of course, once the glitch is gone, you can just die after your stars before the last stop to save time.
I can't comment on r9 Thunder since I never attempted rafting on there. However, with r1 Thunder, you can kill all the goblins while watching TV without feeling the need to rush.
I used to do artifacts as well, but since I found rafting, I just only do rafting for exploration. It is much "automated" than searching artifacts.

Rafting gets you some normal exp too, since my friend spams Ice Spear on rafts to get Lv50/20 the first day of rb then quitting for 6 days :l

I'm guilty of this too..

I totally understand because sometime back I remember disliking to deal with artifacts and pet storage space. But I learnt to just deal with it after experiencing the problems of rafting.
For one, you will need mana and mana potions, which is something I am very stingy with.
The next thing is 5000 gold. I don't know if you will be chopping wood or just paying upfront the rafting boat fee, but it's annoying to have to chop wood for rafting. Money isn't a big issue for some people but I'd rather just use wood for rafting whenever I can.
Either way, the exploration system is terrible. Choose whatever you like.

Haha, yup! The pet storage thing and the different chests! Ahhhhh!
I rather have a nice ride on a raft. :)
Thank you all for your help though.

Crash Shot is potentially the better rafting skill. However, in order to maximize its effectiveness, you would need at least 200 dexterity and r5+ Crash Shot in addition to r1 ranged attack and possibly r5+ Arrow Revolver. That dexterity would come from various life skills (to include refining).
That being said, stick with Thunder. While it's much slower than Crash Shot and impacts less targets in the same amount of time, it doesn't miss and you won't need any prerequisites.
You can raft with Crash Shot without expending Mana Potions. The same can apply to Thunder if you take advantage of the mana tunnel/transformation bonus.
I was also incorrect about earning 15 exploration in two rafts. It's actually impossible due to a lack of mobs for players to earn max stars on each leg. This leaves players with around 8k xp per raft, which would require 2.3 rafts.

Crash shot is far more mana friendly, but not necessarily better than thunder. Crash Shot does miss, and loading + aiming can take even more preparation time than Thunder after the first shot.
It might have the upper hand during the second dock if combined with Final Shot, though, but even then the most you can get is 5 large stars and 3 small ones if you do kill everything that spawns.
Both skills have their pros and cons, but in terms of AP Thunder might have the upper hand if you don't have a decent range background.

If you just want to get to 15, do lost elves?
Those seem to be easy enough
EDIT: If you're also modding then Lost elves come like cake.

Hm...exploration 15 is about 22k exp, and I think the biggest reward is like...3.2k? For 31+ stars. If you can do that with each leg (the 2nd one's the toughest, but the 1st and 3rd should be easy), you could pull down 9.6k per trip, but that's still at least 3 runs.
Concerning the damage nerf, most of the goblins have extremely low HP anyway (archers have like 150, exorcists have about 250-300 and warriors I think have about 450). With the new damage formula, you'd need about 450 int to do basically the same damage I think, with no lightning mastery. That's kinda high for someone without a mage build, but even if you can't reach that it shouldn't matter too much with the low HP values. Remember that the final bolt (technically the only bolt with one charge) still does 1.5x damage, so with nerfed Thunder that's still 159-600 damage, ignoring balance. (and assuming r1 Thunder)
