I'm having a hard time getting the bonus points for the copper ore. How do I get copper ore? Do I have to get it from the big guy at the end or is it possible for it to be in any of the black wisps that say "get"?

Your best chance at getting copper is through mining use mine bombs. Throw a mine bomb near an ore vein (which looks like a rock with red/blue crystals sticking out) and hope one of them will be a copper ore, you'll typically get iron ores but if you hang in there you might eventually get one.

The buttons I am familiar with are 1,2,3,4,5, and f. How do I use the mine bombs? What button do I push? I know I have some in my inv but I don't know how to use them.

Equip them like you would a spear. They are a secondary weapon. Once you have that taken care of before the battle, you use f to activate your mine bombs, which are now your secondary weapon. You then do as scout instructed and look for those specially marked rocks. In Southern Rock Cliff, I believe there are two nodes. One in the second or third area, with the other in the boss' room. Just keep trying, I actually just finished that bonus objective today in my goal to get max BP, and I just hit 38, hehe.

Sweet. So I just put the spears back in my inv and then drag the bombs over to the box? If so, then I believe I've got the hang of it.

You don't need to do any dragging, really. Just right click the mine bombs, and it'll equip them. When you wanna use spears again, right click those, and they'll be equipped again.

There are 2 locations with ores in this mission, once of them is towards the start of the second map, where the kobolds spawn near a small cliff and there's an erg pot in the area. Bottom of the cliff, in one of the corners, there's an ore.
The other one is in the boss room, under one of the round tents on the far end, left side of the room (when facing in from the entrance of the room).
It'll probably take some time because of the lack of mining spots.

When I throw the bombs they just roll away from the ores. Is there a way I can aim and they stay or is it just a matter of luck?

Well you can guess where the bomb will roll off judging by the slope and try to aim so it catches the rock or just keep trying.

Also, it's easier if you throw from far away, since the bomb will spend more time in the air and will spend less time rolling before it explodes.

Would I have a better chance of getting the copper ore playing with a group of people or by myself?

Drops are the same grouped or not, however, the downside of playing with a group is that ores are shared, thus, even though you blew up the node, people may be able to take your copper, as it is randomly assigned. Your best best is going solo. If you are stingy about tokens, you could quit the level after you've mined the nodes, provided you haven't killed the boss of course =) So if you mine, and get no copper, quit and repeat, once you manage to nab a copper, stomp the boss and bam, objective complete.
