Mana Reduction!

  Mana reduction helps a little with thunder rafting. And karis isn't necessary, there are cheaper sets out there like broad brimmed feather hat, magic school uniform and shoes.

  If you're looking for a good answer, Blizaga, it is the same I gave you initially. A wand for MP reduction is superior than Karis. 10% alone is useless unless you have high ranked adv magic. Also, I have covered this issue in other threads and it is my believe and I talk from experience when I say that humans should use heavy armor when fighting.
  
  You get more benefits from it. Marginal benefit of a 10% reduction set when using IS is like 3.2MP while opportunity cost is "sacrificing" def and prot, as well as melee pd. Also, I know this whole thing of "you shouldn't get hit", but you will get hit, several times, even if you do things right, particularly in a party. Do you want to get 1 hit ko'd? Of course not.
  
  So yeah, Karis is just for looks.

  
  
  and what if you happen to be an elf and can't wear heavy armor, or not generally play with regards to def/prot? the 10% stacks with wand mp reduc, and 10% is pretty hefty when stacked with even more.

  Not to mention, the 10% reduction also applies to damage taken during Mana Shield.

  Heavy Armor also means no accessories. My accessories give me over +40MP, on top of the 10% mana reduction.
  
  But on topic, a Magic School uniform is good because you can slap Mana Witch / Mana Wizard on it for 6 mana reduction. Doing that on a Karis (albeit for 7 reduction) is risky. Paired with the much cheaper Karis Shoes, you can get Mana reduction with two pieces that way.

  SPEAK. FOR. YOURSELF. I am also a mage, and I LOVE my mana reduction. It helps with my mana shield. Takes around 12mp off fireball. 10mp of thunder. It depends for IS. The addition of the 10% from mana reduction set plus upgraded wands is also good. So I think mana reduction set is worth it. The karis... not so much. Also BBFH, Magic School Uni, Magic School Shoes, (and mana magician/witch depending on the grades of the items), and bone marine gauntlets = Mana Reduction and Explosion Resistance. Thats helpful if you spam provocation like me.

  it's not my personal preference because my mage set is +MANA +MANA +MANA MILLIONS OF MANA rather than mana reduction (and i've been too lazy to ench wisp on my mana reduc set sitting in my pets ..) but it's very helpful in the long run!

  Think of it this way, for every 10 castings, you get like one free casting with that 10% mana reduction. For some people that maybe important, for others, it is insignificant.

  Tat we've run provocation hard together. Who took more damage and who had to use mana shield to protect himself? That's way more inefficient. Imo 10% reduction is insignificant for all that you have to give up. Soo if you respond to that "I have pots" then that 10% doesn't really matter at all.
  
  Also, it would be better to have enchants that give mana instead of reduction points. As I said before, a wand upgraded for MP reduction is better than a MP reduction set. And I also said this set would only be necessary if you had high ranked adv magic.

  Yes, I thought I said this is for humans only. Wanted to quote myself but it's not in this thread, thanks for pointing that out. But elves don't use light armor? A wand is better, seriously, but that's my opinion.

  This why I like mabi so much. If you're a mage, that doesn't necessarily mean you have to wear every single thing related to mages. What, heavy armor=melee and mp reduction set=mage?
