I have 10% on gear and 16 on my wand totaling 26%
I should be casting 1 charge thunder at efficiency of 31 mana/charge but instead i still charge 42. Is the effect broken?

Uhh double check your math >w<

._. .25x42= ~10-11 42-10= 32 ._. simple?

By check your math I meant on the mana usage of thunder x-x. Keep in mind you will still need 42 mana to cast at all times, but you will use the reduced amount.

Also effects are not additive, they are multiplicative.

I cast 42 at all times.
So if its multiplicative, what should my new charge cost be?

What does multiplicative mean in this case? xD
Like 10% from the set and 16% from the wand would NOT be the same as -26%?
Oh a fun tidbit about the -Mana Cost Set.
It DOES allow you to cast even if you only have 90% of the base cost of the spell.
Like, I can cast Party Healing even when I only have 72 MP, if I'm wearing my MP set, even though the base cost is 80.
But -MP cost on wands do not act the same.
Probably cuz the MP reduc set counts as a "status effect", or something

Iyasenu is right.
Mana Reduction status reduces the cost by 10%. Meaning you need 90% of the cost to cast the spell.
Mana Reduction upgrades reduces the usage by xx%. Meaning you still need the full cost to begin casting the spell, but it will use the appropriate amount.
Mana Reduction with a -16% wand would require 37.8 mana to begin casting (90% of 42) and then use up 31.7 mana (84% of 37.8).
Multiplicative means it's " x (1.00 - 0.10) x (1.00 - 0.16) " and not " x (1.00 - 0.10 - 0.16) "
... or that it's (x .90 x .84) and not (x .74)
Like if you use a 50% off coupon on something that's on sale for 50%. You don't get 100% off, it ends up being 50% of 50%, or 25%.

So with his MP set and his 16% wand, his cost would be...
75.6% instead of 74%?
Interesting, I never knew that about this.
I wonder how mastery skills work.
Do they reduce cost or usage, I wonder.

;~; can anyone pls tell me why me gear is broken?!?!
-
Iyasenu wrote on 2010-11-27 18:17
Are you sure it's broken?
You have a blue sparkling effect when you put on your set, right?
