I read the Evie Scythe Guide and how it mentions that Critical Hit is actually not good for Evie as it may cause the enemy to fly away and not be hit by the magical component of Evie's smashes. So what should I do with the Critical Hit skillbook? (I got it for the XP reward and now I'm stuck with it...)
Can I sell it and rebuy it if I need later? It can't be mailed, so right now it's just taking up space in my inventory...

Critical hit at F does not increase any critical hit percentage. You're safe to use it.

Yes you are safe to use it. I have Rank E and honestly, most monsters are still hit by my magical component of my smash. So I would just learn it and if it becomes useful later on than at least you have it.

Do monsters always fly from crits? I never really noticed them flying from anything but my smashes, and I have rD crit. In fact I haven't noticed if I ever even did a critical because I see no indication of them...

Crits make a different sound and flash more brightly when they land.

It depends on the monster's knockdown tolerance. For instance, in Ainle, the Goblins are very susceptible to knockdown, so if you crit with the physical parts of the scythe smash, they'll fly far away long before your magical portion hits. Vampires, on the other hand, have a higher tolerance for knockdowns, so if your first hit crits, they'll likely just stand in place and get smashed by the magical hit.

Alternatively, your third smash, Soul Skewer does a bang up job of killing mobs and has near to no delay afterwards so it's easy to follow up. (It's what I use mostly since it's far more accurate and better at killing multiple enemies)

I am not that knowledgeable on Evie, but it sounds like a lame argument to not use it. On thrash mobs that are weak to knockdowns, it sounds probable that the crit will kill it anyway, even if the magical smash doesn't land. And then on the bosses, where damage and crits actually do matter, you don't have that problem since they are not flying away anywhere soon :p
So it seems that ranking this skill might sometimes be a mild annoyance on weak trash mobs no one cares about, giving you in exchange (at rank E) 10% crits on bosses. Sounds like a nice deal to me.

You have to take into account that later bosses will summon trash mobs periodically. This poses a problem if you cannot kill them quickly, since they will often get in the way. Even a single misplaced hit by a mob can cause a world of hurt. So knocking a "weak" trash mob away from you without killing it later on will be quite a big problem.

Quote from afkalmighty:
Physical crit for scythes 'can' be more of an hinderance than help.
This is because of normal mob and scythe damage mechanism. Some of you might have already experienced a case where you use a 4-hit smash that would normally kill a mob but, instead of killing it, the mob just flies away and you realize that you barely done any damage to it at all.
This happens when the physical component of the 4-hit smash crits. The crit causes the mob to fly away and the major part of damage, magical, misses.
Now, on enemys that don't flinch or are able to be knocked away, physical crit is a good thing. But the problem is that the benefit is very minimal and from boat 3-2 the normal mobs start to pose quite a danger themselves and missing out on a 4-hit smash can become very costly.
This gets even worse from EP6 and on because alot of the ez farming bosses are difficult to solo, not because of the boss, but because of soloing the trash mobs on the way.
Direct quote taken from another fansite. Hope this will clear people's mind a bit.

The physical hit is incredibly weak, crit or otherwise, and it won't kill later boat mobs. The entire point is that the main portion of the damage (magical) won't hit. That means you will have wasted that much stamina and done pathetic damage.
See the post above mine.

Yeah, I've got Rank E and I already notice this happening. Would really like to be able to disable that skill.

Thats because you also get crit from will. you can't completely stop physical crits from happening even without having physical crit untrained.
I have rank E on my Evie it it really only happens on certain mobs using LLLS and LLLLS attacks, almost all of the time those attacks are overkill anyway so i just stick with LLS for those types of mobs.
Honestly i don't see it as a huge problem if you have crit trained its just a minor annoyance that can be worked around if you absolutely must.

Yeah, the clarifications are nice, thanks. Sucks that a crit ability makes your life harder at some point.

The hitbox for the physical part of the smash isn't that big, IMO.
