Hi, I was wandering through that place where you use the L rod the other day and i came across some horses and some ostriches. I quickly realised there were 4 points on the map which the horses and ostriches rested at for 20 or so seconds. I was just wondering if you could tame them, because i saw some taming gear for sale

Unfortunately, you can't tame those animals.
But you CAN ride them.
Just right click them and select "Mount".
