What're peoples' opinions on the best way to go about upgrading one of these? Last upgrade's a no-brainer of course, but what about the other four?
- Does the 10% increase in cast time on the full damage path make a difference?
- Is the slight reduction in cast time at the cost of lower +damage more useful?
- Ice Spear's damage is fairly low to begin with...so would a minor difference in damage (%-wise, anyway) show up as a large gap in reality?
Share your thoughts here, it's appreciated!

I just take the more cast time/damage as high as possible. The extra damage on wand helps on mana crystalization as well.

Yeah, this is what I was planning on doing actually - using it for mana crystallization. I was mostly wondering if the extra cast time hurt Ice Spear's usefulness terribly in combat though, making the wand pretty much only good for that skill. XD But IS still casts pretty fast, so it probably doesn't matter in the end huh?

No it doesn't. If you can do more than 2 charges normally, chances are that you have the time to wait a fraction of a second longer.

For comparison of either upgrade path of the Crown Ice Wand (r1 Ice Spear):
Upgrade path 205 - Magic Damage +28%, Casting Speed -10%
384 max dmg, 2.2 sec casting time
174.54_ dmg/sec
Upgrade path 170 - Magic Damage +17%, Casting Speed +6%
351 max dmg, 1.88 sec casting time
186.702 dmg/sec

lol, that's quite surprising. So the casting speed path ends up being worth more damage in the end. XD
But then...mana crystallization. :/ Well, I suppose a true hardcore player would probably get both wands. >_>

It's actually not that surprising. Should be kind of obvious since damage and speed are both factors of damage per second, and one increases both while the other takes a chunk away.
Either way, the 205 path is preferable IMO because Ice Spear really needs the damage boost to be efficient. I'm actually against the popular idea that IS is best when spammed.

Ok is situational to me. If your in a big party running something like peaca int or something hard. Your going to want 1 person stacking mobs with icespear so they can gang blaze. In that case you want the mp reduction (normal wand not crown).
If your looking to main icespear then its fast enough your going to want the extra damage. Look at the minimal difference in damage i would go 170 path for that.
For mana crystal you need the best damage one so thats 205 path.
For killing gobbies while getting HW in bangor. Go with the chain +3/4.
