What would be your thoughts on a Mabinogi Lotery system?
Like, at the beginning of every week, players "buy" lottery tickets. People who buy tickets get their names entered to win a certain amount of gold, and at the end of the week the winner is announced.
Or, instead of doing it like that, it could be done with people choosing numbers, like some lotteries are run. I think that would make things more confusing, though.
Without bashing the ideas, answer these questions:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which system do you think would work more? If you don't agree with either, what do you think would work?
How much gold should a ticket cost? How much gold should be the prize?
Should people only be able to buy one ticket, or multiple tickets?
Should winners of previous lotteries be disqualified in future lotteries?
Should the lotteries be player run, or company run? (As in, should the ticket money go into the prize, or not? This causes inconsistent prizes.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm just trying to gather everyone's input on this.

If it is player run, and they fund it themselves, I don't see the problem.
The problem is when the game does it, and magically creates gold. MMORPGs want to fight inflation, not encourage it.
NPCs, donation to church, Auction, lifeskills, and etc. are ways Mabi has been fighting inflation.

Ah, that's another question I wanted to add in there.

For what? Each server would have its own lottery.

I guess a player run lotto would be nice, if you get enough people to participate. Though knowing my crappy luck, I'd probably avoid it altogether either way.
BTW, I like your siggy. Who's that person btw?

Buying tickets. However, I think that the Tara banquet's "lottery" is already a version of this and there isn't any need for another one.
How much gold should a ticket cost? How much gold should be the prize?
10k for 1 ticket and as much gold as there is that week from the money accumulated from the ticket-selling.
Should people only be able to buy one ticket, or multiple tickets?
One ticket or else "rich" people will just buy many tickets and once again, the rich will have a large advantage over the poor.
Should winners of previous lotteries be disqualified in future lotteries?
I think the account should be disqualifed for at least one month of lotteries to prevent one person from winning multiple times in succession.
Should the lotteries be player run, or company run? (As in, should the ticket money go into the prize, or not? This causes inconsistent prizes.)
Player run would not work, so company run.
Honestly, I think the idea of a lottery is a bad one simply because I don't think we need another luck-based event that can net a person large amounts of money. =/ People should work for their money, not win it!

IDK about server only... I guess so, but I just find a hard time of seeing it work out.
Let's see say about 1k people each server, 100g a ticket= 100,000
Yeah it would work out.
:D

That's why you price tickets higher. If someone knows they have a chance to win a lot, they won't mind paying 10k-50k. You also have to keep in mind that not everyone will always participate, so if the prize is made from the accumulated ticket sales, there may be a few prizes shorter or higher than the others.

I know they have lotto in foreign servers so I don't see why not

the question here is : who makes a profit out of this?
because of course someone must. There always seems to be some kind of antagonisim to the operator of such a thing making a profit out of it.
The thing about an international lottery is that there's a large enough of people to buy into it, that even at a low cost and with not everyone participating in it, they generate a substantial profit.
Each server has what? at best 1k people actively playing and of those how many do you think have or would buy into a lottery?
The prize would need to be relatively attractive, something upwards of 1m or an item of equal value.
The tickets would need to be maybe at least 20-30k ea. and at least 100 people to participate. Cause I'm not talking about a cr-p profit like 1~5%.
There's the issue of getting the info out and getting people to participate.
There's trust issues if it's player run, there's also the problem of competing interests.

Come to think of it, housing is alot like lotto in that sense. Except you know the part where the buyer doesn't get a jackpot and only the operant does.

Thing i dont like about lotterys, most of the time i see it, someone who doesnt need the gold, or someone who doesnt need the item and is already rich or doesnt need any of it.
:/ Truth is only what i speak.

should be a drawing of names
tickets should cost 50~100
and the prize would be the total amount of gold from ticket purchases

Add the limit: One Ticket per person.
Otherwise people would buy 9999 of them and get rich.
