I've been watching a lot of boss fights (solo AND team), and I don't see people using their finishers as much as I thought they would. I mean, they're like two thirds of a fireball! With that kind of damage, I would be spamming that as MUCH as I could.
I mean, I'm sure there are times when you don't have time to use your finisher, but even when I saw openings, the scythe user didn't do anything.
What's going on? Is there a reason for it? Are they out of range? Or is my idea of an "opening" just horribly wrong.
edit: I guess a better title was: why don't they spam their finishers in boss fights?

The only finishers that deal significant damage is the 3rd and 4th smash, which both takes awhile to do. People want to get out of the way of the boss asap?

My computer lags up before I can smash. But I think that's just me.

I thought that the third and fourth smashes automatically activated those skills. Evidently that isn't true?
I thought "blowing up" the mark/threads was the problem, but it takes time to place the mark down in the first place? If so, that would explain a lot.

Yea, it is like a separate animation you have to trigger to get the mark down. Using the mark isn't a problem at all.

Also damage wise, it'd be better to continue doing the 4th smash instead of using finishers, especially if you can get in Evie's powerful normal attacks (until lvl 40, bloody thread is pretty powerful). Though if you spammed Mark of death, you'd stun more. Though with the recent boat 4, I do find it harder to spam smashes so finishers are a bit more useful now.

honestly
it's a matter of safety
The cat usually uses LLLR but thats because the cat has the time to do so (most of the time)
if the cat is against Reaper, the cat prefers to use LLR because u can pull out quicker.
and not to mention finishers eat stam

Basically, because they don't want to get their asses smashed into the ground and think it's easier and/or better for them to just do another smash set.
If you do invisible loom > bloody thread, then with the soul pull and the time it takes to snap, you will have missed an entire smash (which is probably more powerful). So, they probably just don't for that reason.
Me personally, I'll do invisible loom & soul pull the bloody thread so it can be activated whenever, and then do another invisible loom if I have time, if not I'll do a .. smash 3 or smash 2, whatever I can get off, then blink outta there (people are notoriously bad at spearing).
We're talking like raids, for the above scenarios.
For most bosses, I'll generally try to get my bloody thready up, blink and snap it while he's going crazy again after standing up, since there isn't as much knockdown time and I wouldn't have time for another smash anyways. I try to pull it even if I'm just running up behind him and hoping he doesn't attack me, cause... eh well, yeah... it's a lot of extra damage and the pull is generally fast enough to get off if I have the time to do invisible loom anyways.
Speaking of which... it was called invisible room before, right? but in-game it says invisible loom now, which..... I dunno if it's a translation error or what, but loom does make a bit more sense than room, considering the whole bloody thread thing.

Smashes are affected by Smash Mastery which can go up to r7 right now, while finishers are limited to rA.
I normally just do the pull for finishers while the boss is down and I'm sure I'm safe.

Loom does make heaps more sense.
And I usually don't spam the snaps because they take a lot of time. What I use snaps for is knocking down. When they enemy is already down, snapping would be a waste, so just spam smashes. Only snap once they stand up, then you'll have a chance to knock them back down. Loom has a fabulous knockdown rate, so sometimes I never even have to snap once because each smash knocks them down.

I like to summon a wisp then keep another wisp on reserve. Pull the soul out after an LLR and just keep it there.
Depending on the boss AI, having a wisp at all times can be better for creating more opportunities for me to create damage.

also unlike staves we use a quite bit more stam, especially with our dodge (blink). if u dont see a scythe evy in an opening, shes prolly running about regaining stam. speaking of, do we ever get stam recovery (dumb question)?

No
But we get insane reaper which is better.

The moment I used Invisible Loom, I had a problem with the original translation. I knew that however translated it to English must not have been paying attention the actual animation of the skill >_> I mean she spins threads around the scythe. So ever since I started using Scythe Evy, I started referring to it as that xD When I finally got Bloody Thread, I was so happy that I was totally right haha
It probably has to do with the fact that in Korean there isn't a differentiation between L and R like we have in English
