I plan on making only Broadswords (Yes, i'm tired of my 255 gladiuses) which has a difficulty of rA.
My blacksmithing rank is rC at the moment, so I have around a 55% chance of success every try (Assuming it's a monday)
My question is, should I rank it upto rA for that 86% success chance? It'll require LOTS of time and effort, so I'm a bit hesitant.
Any answer is appreciated

well, like you said, it'd be hard to do. And costly.
So if you're willing to do it, go ahead.

i say you just buy them and support other smithes. I have 2 smithes in my guild Iich and Dace Iich being one of the richest people in NA and i buy daces stuff to help support his ranking as he is currently at rank 7.

(I really don't like to rely on others... Although there's a really well-known blacksmith in Tarlach Server (Repntojesus), his prices are quite steep in my opinion)

Here is my suggestion.
Do blacksmithing if you've got plenty of money and time.
If you sacrifice what life you've got left to reaching rank 1, you'll become one of the richest most powerful lords of the server.

R1 Blacksmithing is literally where the top lie.
They're the gods who control the game's general economy.
But you'll see why no one does it.
Blacksmith ranking is probably the hardest skill to rank in the entire game.
But if you're not going to max it out, theres no real point in going further than rank 9 (around when you can pretty much provide yourself mats for other life skills). You'll LOSE money from the prices set by the guys on top.

Broadswords in rC? Complaining about Blacksmithing at rC? Making Broadswords at rC would probably cost more than buying them from a high level smith.
I suggest you to just quit now. You are doing Blacksmithing wrong. Complaining about Blacksmithing should only start at r9 or r8 where "real" Blacksmithing begins. Complaining about rC Blacksmithing is like complaining about Weaving is hard when you only in like rF or rE.
Blacksmithing is for those who are dedicated (and rich/resourceful).

Why not take a break?
I did BS up to rank C too and found that I ran out of materials, which is when I took a break and started keeping all the materials I can get. Iron ingots, leathers, everything.
I'm still on this extremely long break though since there are more important skills that I need to rank before blacksmithing. I don't really care about broadsword prices over here, they used to be more expensive until there were a lot of people in the blacksmithing trade.

If you wanna focus on blacksmithing, be prepared to cough up money.
Buying ingots by the hundreds every day is a common practice for monday training.

(I am not complaining; i'm merely asking for advice from the more experienced players.
The real reason for me making Broadswords is because I wish to enchant Incubus and Spike onto them, then proff it towards a 222 path.
As everyone knows, Spike is a hard rank to enchant, and even at a Thursday, the success rate is around 36%. (Provided you enchanted Stamp successfully). On average, I'll need about 9 broadswords to get ONE spike broadsword.
This explains my reluctance to purchase the blacksmithed broadswords
the reason I'm going for the blacksmithed ones instead of NPC bought ones is because of the properties of a blacksmithed weapon to have a greater offensive property, and the ability for a blacksmithed weapon to have red/silver/gold colors)

In my opinion, Repnto charges rather low prices, considering his buying prices for leather and ingots.
Assuming no fails, to make them, it's 6 iron ingots [12k], 6 silver ingots [18k], 2 fine leather [20k] plus thick thread. So that's about 50k?
Repnto sells +5dur, +1max/min/crit broads for 80k.
I feel like it's worth it. Prices for smithed weapons were double that and had lower stats before he started blacksmithing.

It's rather difficult to purchase 9 of them at once... Don't you think...?
Not only that, I get my iron ingots for quite a cheap price; around 30 ingots for the use of 3-5 MP100 potions
Silver ingots, I have a cheap seller that I know
Fine leathers, I spam ciar adv quite often
Thick Threads, it's really not that hard to make them....
If you're confused about where the '9' came from, please refer to my above post.
P.S. no, I was NOT referring to Cirno)

Well.... Rep does do requests. And I think he only charges a fee of 10~20k, if you provide materials.
Of course, ranking it up yourself will allow you more autonomy; I just think Rep is more reasonable than other high rank blacksmiths.
