You can silence a few people, but you can't silence the internet, lol.

I don't follow the news going on about the founder of wikileaks, it must suck to be him right now but he's started something that can't be stopped anymore. The governments are pissed and no power on this earth can take it down anymore, short of closing down the interwebs. The data is out there, be it on wikileaks mirrors, or people who took it from wikileaks (or mirrors) and reproduced it elsewhere. It's online, offline, on disks/flash drives and printed out. People who get new information they want to leak now have hundreds of places to go to instead of one.
Hi government. **** you.

Wikileaks has made allies with 4chan, so not only does it not go down now, but it bites back hard.
On a semi-related note, the Japanese government is once again pushing for a manga/anime ban, this time its incredibly scary how close it is to passing. Projection suggests the law actually has a strong chance of passing. It bans the depiction of anything illegal noted by Japanese law in any work made for a minor to read. For example, a ninja killing a person in Naruto, already means Naruto either has to become an adult rated manga or needs to be canceled. For example, a character smoking in a non-smoking designated zone (by Japanese law, you can't smoke in public) means that manga is now banned.
Its ridiculous how they're trying to censor mass media. Even if this passes they can't stop it from happening, at least not from mass minor published works. Hell, this makes no sense. Why can't manga do it when TV can and books can?
The Japanese government just hates Manga. Thats all.

Good way to guage which types of media generates more tax revenue for the government.
Same way cigarette companies could get away with everything in the 50's even though everyone was pissed at them.

They are not America. Mass media has been and will continue to be successfully censored in a number of other countries. It's not as if the manga industry is a glorified one. Mangaka work tirelessly from dawn to dusk for a modest living. Hardcore fans are the NEETs who aren't really contributing to society at all.
Also, a very high percentage of manga are aimed towards adolescents and younger. Even the ones you think are mature. So I can sorta see where the government (and some parents) are coming from when they say they don't want manga to be full of crimes.

Trying to take down WikiLeaks is like trying to kill a unstoppable virus. If they take down WikiLeaks 4Chan becomes overactive and that means death to all the non profanity on the internet. Youtube Porn Day anyone? Then if they try and take down 4Chan... All our interwebz will belong to them.
