For some time I've wanted a smart phone for the purpose of a portable device that can access the internet. This would help me keep in touch with people and the information I need whenever I want.
I asked my parents for one a few months ago, but I was shut down pretty fast. Besides, I got an okay messaging phone and its got another full year on its contract, so I can see their reasoning behind their decision. A little bit later my mp3 player broke and I found it to be a good opportunity to ask again.
My dad actually took a bit of interest in the new production of the pad type devices, much like the iPad and other tablet devices. Despite being uber rich, he said Apple doesn't deserve his money, and their products are overpriced, so he bought a chinese knock off called SUPER PAD for 200 dollars instead.
Came in the mail today, and I gotta tell you its about a crappy as I told him it was going to be. I told him resistive touch screens sucked, but he didn't listen. I had poor experiences with resistive touch screens. They're uncomfortable, inaccurate, and slow reacting. He should've gotten the slightly more expensive OTHER chinese knock off HI-pad instead if anything.
Dammit, I'm ranting.

Anyways, not only did I have an interest in owning a smart phone, but I also recently gained a lot of interest in e-readers. At first I ignored the products and shrugged it off as unnecessary, but its starting to look more and more appealing especially as they develop.
For an e-reader alone, kindle takes the cake with both its awesome $139 price tag and month long battery life when compared to the nook's $149 price tag and only 10 day battery life (not that I would ever leave it on for more than 10 days without recharging...) The Kindle REALLY boasts superiority with its experimental web browser, which satisfies my need for... web browsing.
But then comes in the new Nook Color. For only a hundred extra dollars comes a device powered by Android. Its... basically the iPad. On top of having the obvious advantage in having color, it boasts quite a number of media usage.
Downside is that its only got 8 hours of battery life, and its LCD instead of e-ink so its a little strainful to the eyes.
Should I ask for a Nook Color or a Kindle? Christmas is coming up and my dad seems to feel a little generous this year :D
