  I thought Mashiro was much much weirder. Compared to Nelliel, that is. Nelliel is much more serious when she fights.

  Like Nell, Mashiro is not human, but more of a spiritual style of character. Like how Nell is an Arrancar, or a former Espada, Mashiro is a special Tayutai previously known as Kikurami kami-no-hime (Deity/Goddess Kikurami).
  
  UNLIKE Nell, when Mashiro isn't fighting, her hair would go back to the original brown tone. While in a serious battle, or perhaps a fight, her hair would turn white, which gives rise to her name "Mashiro" (Pure White). This is why you'll see her in both brown AND silver hair form:
