I've just unlocked Ainle, and I am having an absolutely terrible time trying to solo it. I have died to the Red Bearer 5 times now, and I've died to greed twice. I was only successful at Bearer once, and the rest I had to do with a party...
What's wrong? I have a little bit of lag, but that shouldn't be that big of a deal. I'm not undergeared; I didn't upgrade armor but most lanns I see in videos don't get hit in the first place. Maybe Lann is just not my character? :(

Greed is a very wide range
You more better off tanking him or some extreme hit and run
Red bearer and the repear define the term pain the rear for lann
Do you use slip dash to dodge?
If you cant use slip dash to dodge and counter act the attack speed
Have fun soloing those two

The Red Bearer almost got me the first time I fought him, but I did kill him. How do you fight may I ask? As in, what smashes do you use? Do you use spears on the bosses? How often or how good/bad is your timing with slip dash? And if the Red Bearer gives you trouble, wait till that blasted Reaper....

I never bother using slip dash because it's Rank D.
I use swords. Should I start ranking slip dash... now?

:O!! You never USE It?! It should've been one of the skills you ranked up a long time ago! Get it as high as you can. And it's your dodge skill. Sword Lann's are supposed too attack, dodge the enemy's blow and then attack again while the enemy is recovering. Often, you can time it right to avoid their attack, and then start a mini combo, ending with the 1st or 2nd smash, maybe 3rd. What ranks are your other skills may I ask?

That little invincible time frames might not look like an offense skill, but it is one of the few skills a Sword Lann must max first. The invincible time frames increase is the sole reason for ranking it, stamina cost decrease is more like a bonus. 0.03 second might not sounds like a obvious difference, but that's the reason why you seems like you dodged through the attack and still get hit.
Boat 1 & 2 requires almost no dashing at all, so you might feel it is not so important. Boat 3 starts to have boss that have nasty fast combo with fast attack recovery, this is when you start to use dash to your survive potential as well as damage increase. Boat 4, dash is quite essential if you want to do serious damage (dash -> double crescent), else you would only be hitting normal attacks and forced to retreat.
For Sword Lann, your general fighting style would be wait for a boss to attack, then dash right through his attack to his sides, or right in his face and double crescent (2 hits), if critical proc, then gliding fury away from the boss dealing more damage. You can squeeze in normal attack in between, but note it's risky to do so since boss normal attack has a fast telegraph and normal attack has a short attack recovery.
Despite what other people thinks, I found the timing aspect of the dash hard to master. The time frames is just too little at early, and most boss attack last longer. However, telling how to would require a rather long post and I am just not going to type it all out at this late. Best you can do is go back to boat 1, and try practicing dashing through gnoll chieftain's double swing using slip dash then nimble dash. Or any monster attack is fine, just let them hit you and try to dash through it. You should be able to have a feel of how long your dash will be invincible.

My best advice would be to bait him to do his thrust-twirl-trust move and slip dash -> dc -> gl to him but only graze him.
You can start the LLLR combo when hes twirling.
And don't be afraid to run all over the map. There are times when he will slow down or stop going for you but only for a few second.
So you can drink a pot.
When dashing, you dont always have to dash through his attacks, do something like this
his thrust --> | ^ <-- you dashing.

idk, imo sword lanns have it toughest in the beginning. I'd say just stick with parties for now, and practice later when you have r7 slip dash lol.
Slip dash is too unreliable until rA or above, so you have to actively dodge instead of just slipping through attacks.
This is harder because slip dash also doesn't travel as far or as quick as other character's evasion actions (rolling or blink), so you have to be more aware of the attacks than others would.

Which is precisely why whenever I fight a new boss, I take an observing mode. I run around it and watch it's attacks, see how long they last, what the recovery time is for their attacks, how I can counter and etc. I feel that Sword Lann requires this if you're fight a new boss solo.
