Ive hit sort of of bump in the creation of my character, a melee mage. Ive gotten most of my basic skills up to a sufficient level...but I don't have much of a clue as to where to go from there. My skills are:

heres a tip, you will rank every skill eventually.. so it really DOESN'T matter where you go from there and if your going for melee mage try upping all your melee and mage skills to 1? SIMPLE ^^
EDIT: Plus this isn't the forum's build it's yours. DO TO IT WHAT YOU WANT >.>

To be honest this game isnt about builds....
It's your Fantasy Life~ (Gawd i love running that pun into the ground)
All you really need to know about melee mage (is a melee mage giant 8D) is:
PLZ FOR THE LOVE OF GAWD DO MELEE FIRST and master WM BEFORE anything else then refine for some dex
ALL MELEE SKILLS should be r1 before going to magic since Magic is gonna give you in the face amounts of CP, with adv magic anyway.
Once you max all melee max all bolts, get adv magic (thunder first for more MP) Blaze should be fun to use to if you get it high enough + the str you should have.
TL;DR Version
WM > Production Mastery(for awesome stam)/CM and Crit/Final Hit(loads of str for humans) > Def/Smash, thats the very basics the rest of melee max however you want
All Bolts > Thunder/Blaze > Fireball > Ice Spear, the other magic skills are just more mp.
Most important about Mages ALWAYS HAVE MP POTS! ALWAYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
If i failed to help at all ask Vejosa about magic she knows **** ton about it
But like Jking said you will eventually max everything if you play long enough, I never once thought about using magic at all~

I mean you can make builds cause i mean how many people actually stay to the end...
Builds if done effectively help you do harder dungeons at much lower levels.
So if this guy wants to go with a build don't bash him. sometimes people like second opinions.

1. Specialization is better than hybridization. Choose to pursue magic, melee, range or alchemy...not a combination of more than one. This will get your character stronger faster, as you'll be able to run harder missions more efficiently, thus obtaining the AP needed to fuel multiple skills.
2. Windmill is harder to train at higher levels as you'll have more Combat Power. It's also a damn useful melee skills with excellent stat bonuses. This should be the top priority for melee and ranged combat (to some extent) while other classes are suggested to rank it early as you'll otherwise need expensive -CP gear later on.
3. Refining is harder to train as you obtain more dexterity. This skill is vital to ranged combatants, while aiding melee through the added dexterity/balance.
