I. Enchants
i. The Scroll
[Image: http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/4631/enchantscrolls.jpg]
In Mabinogi, enchants come in the form of scrolls.
These scrolls occupy a 1x 2 area (two blocks) and come in random colors.
They are obtained from monster drops, quests, extraction (burning) from enchanted items, and more.
These scrolls are used on items to give the item a special effect.
An item can only hold two enchants, one prefix and suffix.
Rolling your mouse over an enchant will give you the scroll durability, rank, effect, and remaining time.
[Image: http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1982/scrolln.jpg]
ii. Limits
a. Item Limit
Certain enchants can only go on certain items, such as hats, gloves, or even metal items.
If you roll over the scroll you may see the item limit on it, for example this enchant only goes on shields.
[Image: http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/9417/enchantlimits.jpg]
b. Time Limit
Every enchant has a time limit shown at the bottom of the description box.
Once this time is over the enchant becomes expired, it can no longer be used.
There is no legitimate way to revive or use dead enchants.
There is a rumor that Elven Magic Powder can enchant with expired enchants, but this is not confirmed.
c. Enchant Rank Limit
Since the wiki says it much better than I can.
Enchant scrolls of rank 9 and higher require that the item being enchanted already have an enchantment of the previous rank (or higher). You cannot enchant a Rank A prefix and then put on a Rank 9 suffix, they must both be a prefix or both be a suffix.
This means that in order to enchant an item with a rank 6 enchant, for example, you must first enchant it with a rank A, 9, 8, and 7 enchant in that order.
II. Enchanting
i. The Enchant Skill
The enchant skill is classified as a Magic Skill.
Each rank increases your base Int and Dex by one.
In total, it takes 28 AP to get to Rank 9, 67 AP to get to Rank 5, and 135 AP to get to Rank 1.
It's a good Dex boost in the lower ranks but afterwards it is not AP efficient.
The skill takes a lot of WORK and MONEY to rank.
It will require millions to reach the higher ranks and a lot of skill grinding.
Increasing this skill will NOT increase the chances of using enchant scrolls.
Check the Reference below for training information.
Increasing this skill increases enchant burning success rates and allows you to use Rank 5+ enchant scrolls upon hitting Rank 5 enchant.
It also decreases the scroll durability loss on failures (see below).
ii. Enchant Powders
In order to enchant you need to have enchanting powder equipped.
The three basic powders are (shown from left to right) Magic Powder, Blessed Magic Powder, Elite Magic Powder.
[Image: http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/7415/powders.jpg]
The basic powder is obtained from burning enchanted items and monster/dungeon drops, it has the lowest success rate and cannot be used to request enchanting.
Blessed powder is obtained for 500g each at magic vendors, it has the lowest success rate but can be used to request enchanting.
Elite powder is obtained from 1000g each at magic vendors, it has higher success rate and can be used to request enchanting.
There are two better powders, Elven and Ancient, however these are no longer available in game and must be bought from players who still have them (for an expensive price).
a. Enchanting By Yourself
In order to enchant by yourself you need to equip the powder in your left weapon slot and equip the enchant scroll in your right weapon slot.
Get to at least Rank F enchant and click the "Use" button in your skill window.
[Image: http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/4080/usesolo.jpg]
A window will pop up, select the item to enchant and click "OK."
[Image: http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/3804/soloenchant.jpg]
The enchanting process will take a few seconds and use 6 mana, you can cancel during this time.
After the enchanting is done there will be a messaging indicating Success or Failure (as well as character animation).
b. Requesting Enchanting
In order to request that someone else enchant an item for you, you do not have to give them your item and enchant.
Equip the powder and scroll the same way as enchanting by yourself.
Join the person's party.
Get to at least Rank F enchant and click the "Use" button in your skill window.
[Image: http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/4080/usesolo.jpg]
A window will pop up, select the item to enchant and click "Request."
[Image: http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/5357/enchantbox.jpg]
A small box will pop up, select the name of the person doing the enchanting and click "OK."
[Image: http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/521/entrustbox.jpg]
A large window will pop up, fill in the enchant and item as shown.
You should view the success rate as well as check the enchanters rank.
Anything put in the large box at the bottom will be given to the enchanter upon a successful enchant.
[Image: http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/5286/enchantboxbeforeafter.jpg]
When you are ready to enchant, click the "Request" button and wait for the enchanter to accept.
iii. Success Rate
Enchant success rate is based on three things.
-Enchant Scroll Rank
-Intelligence of the Player (After 200 int there is no bonus success rate)
-The powder used
Here's the basic chart of success rate with 200 int.
[Image: http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/3824/enchantingrates.jpg]
On Thursday, the enchant rate increases a few percentage points.
[Image: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/5849/thursdaysuccess.jpg]
iv. Results
a. Success
The item will receive the enchant and the enchant scroll will vanish.
If the enchant bonus was not a fixed number (for example 4-8 damage bonus), the item will receive a random number within that range.
b. Failure
Upon failing it is likely that the item will lose durability.
Depending on the Rank of the enchant, the item can lose more or less durability.
Enchants Rank 6 and above will destroy the item on a fail.
[Image: http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/673/durloss.jpg]
The enchant scroll will also lose a set durability depending on the enchanters rank.
Once the scroll hits 0% durability, it is useless.
[Image: http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/1526/durlossscroll.jpg]
III. Extracting Enchants
i. The Campfire Skill
The campfire skill to extract an enchant from an item.
A high ranked fire will have a better chance than a low ranked one.
The percentage increase with high ranked campfire is much higher for low ranks of enchanting, but decreases as the enchanting skill increases (in the end only adding 1-2%).
ii. Burning Materials
[Image: http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4934/herbsp.jpg]
From left to right- Mana herb, Sunlight herb, Holy Water.
In order to burn an item you must supply an herb and one holy water.
The required herb changes when requesting or burning yourself.
-Requesting uses sunlight herbs.
-Self burn requires mana herbs.
Mana herbs are much more expensive (over 2x the price) than sunlight herbs so requesting burns saves money.
a. Burning By Yourself
In order to burn by yourself you must first obtain a fire (whether that is finding one already made or making one youself).
Prepare your mana herb and holy water, and then drag the enchanted item onto the fire and click.
[Image: http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/6649/dragonto.jpg]
A box will pop up, click "Enchanter's Burn."
[Image: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/6315/burnsolo.jpg]
You will instantly lose a mana herb and holy water and you will see whether you got a success or not.
b. Requesting Burning
You do not have to give the enchanter your items and herbs for them to burn it.
Join the person's party.
Prepare your sunlight herb and holy water, and then drag the enchanted item onto the fire and click.
[Image: http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/6649/dragonto.jpg]
A box will pop up, click "Entrust Others to Burn."
[Image: http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/7039/burnparty.jpg]
A small box will pop up, select the name of the person doing the enchanting and click "OK."
[Image: http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/521/entrustbox.jpg]
A large window will pop up, fill in the herb, holy water, and item as shown.
-You do NOT have to separate the herbs or water, it only uses one.
You should view the success rate as well as check the enchanters rank.
Anything put in the large box at the bottom will be given to the enchanter upon a successful enchant.
[Image: http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1577/burnboxbeforeafter.jpg]
When you are ready to enchant, click the "Give" button and wait for the enchanter to accept.
iii. Success Rate
Burn success rate is based on two things.
-Rank of the campfire
-Rank of the Enchant Skill
The first bonus to the enchant skill comes at Rank B campfire, here is a chart of the success modified success rates with certain campfire ranks.
[Image: http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/8369/burnrates.jpg]
iv. Results
a. Success
Upon a successful burn you will receive the enchant off the item.
If you had a prefix and a suffix on the item, there is a chance you will receive one or both.
The item is destroyed.
b. Failure
When the burn fails the item is destroyed.
IV. Etiquette and Behavior
Etiquette is one of the biggest things missing from Enchanting that other life skill trainers will get.
It is part of the reason no one will ever public enchant.
It's also something many people need to learn.
i. Getting hold of an enchanter
Whether someone wants to enchant for you is their decision, not yours.
Don't spam or add anyone to try and get their help.
If any enchanter accepts, don't arrange for the enchanter to meet you, you should meet him/her.
Being friends with an enchanter is a good, also being in a guild with one.
-Don't be the "friend" who never talks and only PMs me just to get a burn.
ii. Providing Materials
It is common practice that the person requesting the burn or enchant provide the herbs, holy water, or powder.
Enchanters spend millions ranking this skill, you should be able to shell out 1500g for a request.
If we give herbs to one guy, we have to give herbs to everyone. Please prepare your materials beforehand when burning, when you leave the burn window open for five minutes that's time other people can request enchants (and the fire will go out).
You don't have to split the herbs and holy water, just put the whole stack in.
When you need a burn, don't sit there and wait for the enchanter to make a fire.
Go to the weapons shop, get an axe, and get chopping.
When you get the five firewood, give it to the enchanter so that he/she can make a fire.
This might not seem like much, but it really saves a load of trouble.
iii. Being Respectful
If there's a misconception that needs to be cleared it's that
Enchanters public enchant to get a lot of skill exp, they NEED our help.Bull.
The time I spend making a fire, sitting in the Dunbarton street, explaining how enchanting works, and then dealing with people who don't have materials is hardly good training.
If you're asking an enchanter to help you (while he/she is not public enchanting) be sure to ask nicely, and with good grammar.
Make it easy for the enchanter.
Would you please help me burn an item? I have the materials and firewood ready. When an enchant fails, please don't have a spasm or blame the enchanter.
Many people have cursed at me and then commanded me to enchant their items, the new blacklist is useful.
And really, I'm getting tired of people waiting for me to make a fire while they sit there and then get all agitated for having to wait.
Go get the firewood yourself.
