Quote from Chillax;252583:
I think Gentrone said it well by asking, "What have you done for other human beings?"
Nothing anymore, since I gave up hope on humanity by the time I was 12, and have been disgusted at being part of this species since about 15.
When I was little I was always participating in school charities and "adopted" some kid in Africa with one of those school programs where you pay them money and you get to exchange communications with the kid. My innocent little mind thought that nonsense made any kind of difference.
The reality of our situation is that you can recycle all you want, donate all the money you want, be it 1 dollar or a billion dollars, but nothing will change. The problem is the system we're in, where a handful determine the fate of the rest of us. Your billion dollar donation might build hospitals and feed half of Africa, but then all those people will die from war and other conflicts driven by political situations. You can get a whole city to recycle by educating them and imposing laws mandating it, but the big corporation nearby will waste more in a month than your city will save in a year.
Government, religion, and economic systems are the problem and most humans are either too naive or too smart to be willing to change that. It's going to take a complete tear-down of civilization caused by a major catastrophe, so that everything comes down at the same time, to allow new ideals to prosper. I await that eagerly.
Maybe to help humanity I should fund a project to lure a massive meteor to hit the earth.
