Quote from Osayidan;255000:
Not saying to throw away technology but to throw away cluttered up cities and "concrete jungles". If everyone lived on land that could be cultivated, and if about half the population had some sort of livestock, we'd be all set.
We don't need jobs, we don't need currency based economies or borders. If we reverted to the simple life but kept our technological and medical advancements humanity would prosper.
All that's really missing to be able to do something like that is free energy for all, which many claim exists already, at least in theory.
But people are stubborn.
Jobs motivate people greatly, and so does money (currency). There has to be people with the skills to maintain and develop such technologies. Medical advancements while half the population devotes itself to subsistence agriculture? Medical advancements only exist because some people spend their lives on research, and other people spend their lives applying such research to people.
Just the Hospital building alone costs a lot of money to stay open. Electricity, building maintenance, equipment maintenance, paying for their workers, and the list goes on is what takes to keep one Hospital open.
Not everyone wants to cultivate and raise their own livestock. It costs time, labor, and other opportunity costs. Why work so hard to grow food/raise livestock when you can spend all day do something you love? (Unless it is to grow/raise such stuff) Not everyone wants to do such labor intensive work while they can just sit behind a desk, and type on computer all day. I guess for some people, it means they can play some video game all day after work, lol.
Free Energy for all? You are only thinking from the perspective of the consumer. All energy companies right now takes money to maintain, let alone get them to produce energy. The money spent on energy means that someone else gets money to pay for what they want and need. Those money spent allows others to get what they want and need.
You can try getting solar panels for your own house, but you will find that maintaining solar panels alone isn't exactly free either. Not to mention, it probably won't give you a reliable energy source.
