Yes, I'm a Christian. Please don't troll.
Anyways, I've heard from other people that thinking of lust itself is a sin (itsnotyourfaultsaani). Thats just downright impossible not to break. I mean, you see a "pretty looking girl", its hard to resist thinking "dayum she's hot," which kinda defeats the purpose.
So, discuss. Don't be shy.

The bible expects you to be the perfect human being who thinks of others more than themselves, which is nearly impossible.
The bible forbids you to have lust, but it's not like it can stop you from staring at them foxy ladies.

Depends how you interpret your religion and how strictly you decide to adhere to that. I don't feel lust so the only information I have about it is off of stories told by others. Apparently it is impossible to avoid thinking about it, it's why men will avert their eyes for two seconds and then completely forget about the person they were staring at. It's not something that can be controlled, it would be like blaming someone for bleeding when getting stabbed. As long as no one gets harmed physically or mentally by lust, I don't see any problem with it.

I've always seen it as something like "Sin, but don't sin too much."
Because you don't want Jesus to die for nothing, but you don't want to be a bad person.

lust in itself is not a sin, its just that lust and the other so called deadly sins tend to lead you to sin

The bible doesn't expect you to be perfect, lol! In fact exactly the opposite. We're fallen; God knows that. We can't be perfect and He knows that. That's why He sent His Son. All the bible wants us to do is to believe and trust in the Lord. He knows we're going to sin. The point is to confess to the Lord. Say you're sorry. Jesus died for all humanity's sins. He paid the price for our sins. When you confess your sins; He doesn't see the sin anymore. It's gone, written off the books. Nothing to worry about!

Remember that the 10 Commandments are from the Old Testament, and that it expects you to do a lot of things that people nowadays would just ignore. Part of picking, choosing, and interpret the bible in your own ways.
It has really nothing to do with Jesus since Jesus is part of the New Testament, where God has a total attitude flip or something.

There's a difference between thinking about your lust and acting on your lust.
Christianity (normally as a whole) frowns upon the latter, though some branches of Christianity also reprimand thinking about it.

In the old testament man is under the law. God is righteous and the law must be followed. The law states that anyone who sins must die. Before Jesus died for people's sins, animals would be sacrificed to fulfill this, though animals were just a shadow of Christ, a learning tool if you will. When Christ died for humanity's sins the law was fulfilled. Therefore it has everything to do with Christ.
"For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." Rom 8:3-4

But isn't Jesus was also the father/Holy Spirit, and since he/it was all knowing, he/it already knew that he/it would be resurrected after death anyways?
Do keep in mind that there was more to the world than the Middle East area where those desert nomads were running around. The other parts of the world had no influence and/or didn't even know about the Old Testament.

TinyMo wrote on 2010-12-21 17:25
Yeah, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one. Yes, Jesus knew He would be resurrected.
Oh! I didn't mean it to sound like I meant everyone sacrificed animals for sins. I meant to say the Jews, but I wan't sure if it would be filtered or whatever, and I didn't want it to sound offending. Sorry for the confusion!
Sorry for kinda getting off topic too!

What I've heard that is that it is not technically a see to just see a beautiful person and feel a tiny bit of lust, it's a sin if you take a second look or your first look is especially long :3

IMO Lust is not a sin, it's just what it leads to would be sinful.
None of the sins are real sins, really. However, what comes next will, literally be, a sin.
ie.
Extreme cases of Lust may lead to rape. Lust is the one driving the prositution business, but that doesn't means lust itself is a sin, does it?
Extreme cases of Gluttony causes one to eat more than one is supposed to. During the old ages, eating more means someone else would have to eat less, I'm guessing that this would cause someone to starve... And die, of course. But that does not mean that gluttony itself is a sin, does it?
Extreme cases of Greed causes you to get over obsessive on a certian object you would want. In some cases, even commit murder to get to it. This is common, as shown on TV and news reports where people kill or murder other people just to get MONEY. But is greed a sin by itself? I think not.
Well, those are just SOME examples available out there. I'm pretty sure it applies for the other 4 "sins" too.
However, if you're to ask me for a VALID sin that everyone is suspectable to and should be listed on the bible, it should be Stupidity. Stupidity by itself is purely horrible and if you would set it in religion that it's a crime to be stupid and you'll be sent to hell for that, I do believe people would be alot smarter.
However, with smart people comes questioning, religion would probably die out.
Oh, god darn churches. They thought of everything!

Religion tends to want stupid and gullible people (especially if they have money) that just follows it through pure faith regardless of what happens. Of course, over time, people pick and choose what they believe in, and denomination are created. There are around 30,000+ denominations for Christianity alone in the world.
The first four commandments really has nothing to do with dealing with people, but rather, being controlled by religion. Blasphemy is a "crime" against religion by people who don't blindly follow everyone else, despite there being no victims.

Actually, the first four commandments are to honour and to keep our focus on God. Please do respect that.
On topic:
The only reason why lust is a sin is to keep us away from the temptations. So in general, I guess lust is just a big no no.
