Hey guys :O
Mew has decided to play Mabi again (casually) and is going to be playing a mage giant 8D He can do a free rebirth and I think he has either r3 or fully trained r4 Wm on his giant :3 Should he finish his WM now or start ranking up some magics? (i am assuming WM and then start rankin up magic)
So what I was going to do is:
WM r1 ---> LB r5 ---> FireBolt r5 -------> IB r5 -------> Blaze r1 ----> r1 LB -----> r1 Thunder -----> r1 IS -----> other shiznit while ranking up crit and other life skills that give int. Is it an okay idea to have blaze as my main spell? or should I replace blaze with thunder =O
SO! for all you mage giants (if any) out there give mew some tips etc ^^ Also should i really make a mage giant or just a melee one? I do have other charas that COULD be mages (my human has nice magic skills) But i already f*cked them up so getting r1 WM would be extremely difficult ^^;
thanks,
Mew (IGN MEWCAT but the client is still downloading)

Quit while your behind.
Nah, Im just playing with you. Being a mage giant to going to be pretty difficult if you cant establish a steady income to play for your mp costs. Are you planning to go full mage or mix your magic with some melee?

If you're going pure mage go Elf. Mage Giant is pointless and I find it's stupid when people try to be original like this. (Not calling you stupid D:)
Anyways, if you're really committed I suggest doing R1 Bolts and Magic Mastery first. This will help you get your Int up since Giants have low Int in the first place. After that, you can start working on Adv Magic. I'd go with Thunder for the +mp. BUT, if you want less Mp and +Int do Blaze. But I suggest Thunder first.
Also, do crit any time you can, but that's kinda obvious.

Well, I'm not a giant but I can give you some advice on magic. First, giant mages are not bad like most people think (look at Vejosa), however they are designed to be really good at melee. Therefore, ranking wm to r1 would be a good choice, so you don't have rely on magic all the time, in case you run out of MP, a wand breaks, or simply low rank spells.
Second, bolts help build up your Int, which you will need for Blaze (in case you want to give this skill priority). Since you already have wm, get LB to r1, IB to r9 and Firebolt to r5. I would recommend all of them to r1 though. At this point you might wanna get composition and music knowledge to rank 7 and 6. They are easy Int. Read the books Aeria sells. Magic Mastery is a priority because of the additional MP.
With the advent of G13, if I was a new mage I would follow that path and additionally rank Hailstorm and Ice Magic Mastery. Today Tatsigi showed me that mana consuption can be reduced to 60ish for the 30 seconds the skill lasts. Hailstorm would allow you to clear dungeons faster and gain levels (more AP). After that (or maybe along with), Thunder would be the best choice since it helps a lot for exploration exp (raft), 9 would be fine, but get it to r1 eventually (along with its mastery).
I think after that you can pretty much rank any skill you want. Blaze would not be a good choice because it will be nerfed and it would only work with high Int, it should be ranked once you're in your 800 or 1k lvls. After that there's room for experimentation so I can't recommend the any of the new skills until I try using them in combat (bolt composer for example).

I don't think you really need to worry about other Intermediate Magic (Ice Spear/Fireball) as long as you can be established in one of them. Blaze is a nice side powerhouse.
You have a unstable schedule to build with though. In G13, magic is going to go through a few changes you need to be aware of. But, by all means, get at least one Intermediate Magic to a good rank as your main DPS. IB can stay at r9, FB/LB can stay at r5. Magic Mastery is a must if you need quick Magical Balance/Int/MP.
By the way, Giants being handicapped at Magic is very little to worry about, unless you're money-conscious.

I could've sworn they had lower base/stat growth int/mp?

Can always pick the Wizard job with a human/elf. Plus MP reduction can't be worn by giants (right?)

True. But the Magic disadvantages of Giants are not as severe as... say, Melee Elf.
In fact, I usually liken Magic's versatility between all 3 races as a lesser versatility of Alchemy.
Also, there are MP reduction enchants that can be worn by Giants to obtain 10 points. Even more enchants in G13.

Using the MP reduction enchants takes away from using int/mp enchants.
@OP If you want to have a giant with sub magic, go ahead. Nothing wrong with that; you only have so many melee skills. But if you want to have a giant that's pure mage, think twice.

Intelligence is easily gathered and amassed.
+MP effect has a lower efficiency rating than MP reduction effect.
