It's honestly not that big of a deal. There are places that let you get event pokemon for free through GTS anyway despite not being legit. But honestly, what's the difference between getting an event pokemon the legit way than getting it through non legit ways? I'd personally just save myself the trip and hassle.

Did you miss the point of what I said earlier?

Technically speaking, you don't need to be within the vicinity of an event to get event pokemon. That's what these exist for.
