  Maybe you guys were thinking of something like this, http://www.themes.blahdocs.com/theme-shades_of_red/ but as I clearly said, light black background, dim red borders, everything else is mostly white, or a slightly creamy color works out fine like the droidforums does.

  Well ya know, your hair isn't actually black. It's really dark brown. But that has nothing to do with the case. I'd say a shade of red that's light and not pink with white would appeal to both parties.

  Forums should try to always keep the windows bright. The backgrounds shouldn't be a hard color, so a dark gray is better than black. Blizzard's black site with bright blue letters hurt my eyes so much.
  
  Dark colors are easily doable as long as you do it right and don't use hard colors.

  this is one of the first forums where i genuinely liked the layout and colours, and I didn't find any of it tacky.
  
  Pastel, light colours always go well. Low saturation, shorter wavelength colours.. blue is very relaxing, and I find green is as well. Just easy on my eyes.. i tend to get a headache browsing those stereotypical stark contrast colour themes or neon on black sort of thing. I'd really appreciate staying away from black personally, too dark and cliche; I find keeping it light also helps keep people's moods that way, if not being only a slight prime.
  
  also.. Kazuni's reddish text is one of my favourite shades (albeit slightly more red); that would also go well if gone in that direction.

  And I'm still against the idea of black/red or gray/red. Gray makes the red look all ashy, imo. Brown/maroon would suit vindi better.
