Kay, so my Dragon Shield is (thankfully) 2/2. I'm having one helluva tough time deciding whether I want to do:
7/2 10% ping
or
5/2 15% ping
The first one, they already have a passive defense of 20, so an extra 2 wouldn't make THAT much of a difference, but some would say every little bit helps.
The second is 2 less defense, but 5% more ping. Kind of obvious why this path is appealing.
To give ya'll an idea of what I'm going for, I'm using a defense set. Burgundy Bear Muscular (+2def, +1prot [g14]) on the helm/gloves/boots, and Refined Stone 6/4 Dustin armor (technically 7/5 not upgraded yet, but the max dura is forcing me to do a lower upgrade path, so it'll turn out like a 6/4 fully upgraded), and Defensive Muscular (can't get Sweet :/) Hatchet, and Guardian Colonel shield.
So the total bonuses are 39/21 15%M 20%R.
With the first choice, it's 61/23 25%M 20%R.
With the second one, it's 59/23 30%M 20%R.
(Including base def, but not including the +3def if Golem summoned, but that comes into play ocassionally)
I'm still kinda leaning towards the 7/2 upgrade

I'd go for PD since I find it activates a lot for 15% and can save your but. But thats just me.
If you're going for a just plain Def set do the first one.

I don't think 2 def will make that much of a huge difference compared to a 5% pd, which can save your life

Is that your only shield?
I suggest a defense shield (dragon) and a ping shield (beholder) for different occasions.

You should ask yourself how much of a difference is 2 defense, which is like 4 damage reduction?

I do have a 3/1 beholder, but I definitely plan on selling it. If I do get another beholder it's definitely going to be a ping one.
End: I'm mainly focused on PvP with this set, as I rarely get hit when I golem (and that's all I do lol).

Okay, look at it this way... 2 defense will, on every hit, subtract a grand total of 2 damage. 1000 will be reduced to 993 instead of 995. 2 defense will never, in all likelihood, save your ass.
5% PD means that an extra 1 in every 20 hits will ping, reducing damage by 20% I think, and allowing you instant retaliation. PD will save your ass more than you could believe.

If it's for PvP do passive defense.

I would choose the +5% pd over +2 def in any situation.

Alright, came to my senses and upgraded for 15%PD

Whenever I get around to enchant protecting it, and then hunting the golems. But yeah, all that stuff I mentioned is end-game atm. I just found out Muscular is r8, and that I need to spam castle dungeons for the r9 suffix -.-; So right now it's all Burgundy Bear Healer. Oh and I need to upgrade my armor :s
