I wish they just let successes and failures give you experience; no limit on how many. That way you could just keep succeeding or failing. Whatever you do best, lol. Just let it give you less exp after a certain number. Like maybe give you .01. That way you'd get it eventually no matter what.

I hope OP invested in a scarecrow set before embarking on the higher refine levels. o.o
Currently at r5 I only have 52 base DEX and with my title I only have 22 DEX. I could go make one if I wanted though. As for everyone else I'm not going to repair my Broniac once I kill the dura. Honestly, I hate the thing. As for other difficult skills I'll rank them legit. The only reason why I want to even use the Broniac in the first place is because there is a lot of new stuff coming out in G13 and I don't want to spend my time sitting in Bangor hoping for failures while I could be mastering Down attack or ranking Sword Mastery since it does give DEX and would conflict with me ranking refine.

R3 currently with a minimum of 66 dex. Though that could be coming from my leveling. I would work on failures when you rebirth.

I don't rebirth unless I get to level 65~70 and with all this lag it's going to be an even bigger challenge. Yeah, I never thought about the +DEX i get from leveling since I'm normally 17+. Thanks, I'll be sure to rank refine at lower levels.

Ferghus, so that he wouldn't feel so alone about failing
To answer your serious question, I'd suggest that you don't. It's much mroe worth it to even buy the ores because once you get into ranged and stuff, you'll realize how valuable AP is

They required fails in refining to remind people that refining is a lifeskill, and lifeskills will be hard to gain even though refining is a joke compared to most lifeskills.

Devcat got the idea when they realized how freaking hard it was to fail at later ranks.

.02% from Rank 1 Refine and Dunbarton was out of Iron, Copper, and Mythril...

was the same masochist bastard that putted 100 finest silks in weaving, and imo it's WAY worse than those refining fails
Yes yes...the same masochist haha. But really, at rank 4/3/2 it is much easier to just buy all the frags/ores and then resell the ingots that can be sold.
That's just my opinion, no way in hell I was going to do metallurgy (oh wait, I DIDN'T have metallurgy when I got rank 1, OOPS) or spend precious AP in that skill when I can make twice the money I would use to rank it by doing other thing.

Not sure why everyone whines about refining. The last rank you ever actually need a failure in is Rank 6. For 5 through 2, even if you never see a failure, you can still get the training done. It takes longer and costs more, but ore fragments don't cost much in the first place. Not even silver. That's right, I said it. Not even silver. Coming from a player who has never had more than 2.5 mil in their bank at any given time. So just buck up, make those ingots, and then either sell those ingots, or use em for other life skills. If you get a fail, do a little jig. If not, no biggie. *looks defiant*
