  That message is for when you are actually transforming. Once the animation for the transformation is up, you'll be attacked if you have Pally V. DK on...

  Elf range is powerful, but it isn't as reliable when you're not in close range... and I think getting too close to a giant would end up badly D:

  true, i normally rely on melee more than range when i dk vs pally. Im more used to it
  And it's incredibly hard to get close to one archer even with charge / evade

  elf loads range or magnum and trans
  giant loads charge and trans
  
  if elf doesn't miss, giant eat magnum on face. Considering the dmg one magnum can do that would be pretty much devastating.
  if elf misses, giant combos and elf will probably die. If elf survives there's always the chance of wm/sog magnum after the giant finishes the combo.
  Even if he tries to evade that magnum after that wm, magnum loading time is too fast to dodge 2
