Only the sound effects because it's like playing nothing without it :v
It's also good because I can hear monsters load skills.

The only thing I can hear, is my blade on goblin's necks, k-pop, and me crunching on chips.

I usually keep the bgm off, except during some missions and boss battles. I remember of what I first thought about the music of Mabinogi, it was very invigorating when I first started the game. It was really fun listening to Tir Chonail's music and the atmosphere it brought. The individual NPC songs made me want to go see NPCs just to not only see their individual faces but also their individual songs that were well tailored to them and represented them.
I remember being covered by the strums of the piano keys on my way to Ciar Dungeon, feeling energetic as I set forth to the 2nd dungeon I was going to explore. I remember going down through Dugald Aisle and hearing my ears ring with rustic tune that represented a new adventurer to Erinn... one that has finally stepped out of his/her safety newbie starting zone and set to explore the world. I remember laughing at Tracy's theme, at its silly notes that tried so hard to sound manly.
I could hear the echoes of boss music, reminding me to get serious and how gigantic the golem was. The first time I entered Dunbarton and fawning over the fanfare welcomed me to a bigger city other than Tir Chonail, it was so noble and welcoming.
The first time I heard the watery jazzy beat of Rundal's boss room made me swoon as I fought deep within a watery dungeon. Or even the songs of generation one, in which Kristell sang the Succubus Song to Tarlach which melted my heart and from the music, I could feel the pain of her love.
Or going through and seeing the incubus, hearing his songs touch my heart that even I repeated his words once his cutscene was over, the bgm of his song playing in my head.
It made me smile and it made me cry when I played Mabinogi during my first few months. Even running through Osna Sail was a blast, since the upbeat music reminded me that if I slow down even a bit, the wolves will attack me.
Now that I've played Mabinogi for three years, most of the newbie magic I once had is gone. The same music that kept me inspired and glued me to the illusion of the world of Erinn is gone. The repetition of the music is now boring, hearing the same thing over and over again is tiring. I suppose, that is to be expected after playing so long. The only time I really turn it on is for boss music or for remembrance, such as going to Tir Chonail and listening to the rustic harmony once again.
Of course, in a newbie's eyes, these are all impressive. Every now and then I hear new players commenting on their favorite bgm and how "epic" some are. I always smile because it makes me remember the times when I was a newbie and the impression that some BGMs left on me. When I hear newbies talk of their favorite songs, I'll go to that area and turn on the music just to feel nostalgic. Maybe if I am lucky and in the mood, I can maybe feel some of the old magic of when I first listened to the BGMs for the first time and imagine... one more time... the energetic feeling of hearing a new song that tailored to the atmosphere I was being presented.
Ah, the curse of being a veteran of the game. What I gained to be a strong high level veteran player I paid for in the loss of the newbie eyes and magic and the fondness of loving to play Mabinogi and the illusion of a brand new world.

Two years of having the BGM on and still running.
Then again, I changed some of the BGMs. Still, atmosphere is a deterrence to the realization that you're working (grinding), and not having fun.

the music gets too repetitive for me, so I only turn it on for final boss music or when I'm in falias.

Nope, I don't even have the music files for the game. I usually have my own music going, or I'm on skype.

It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm just around in town, the music is off. I haven't replaced any files at all, too afraid to. If I was doing a g9, Oh yeah, I'll turn it all the way up, Epic Music Is Epic!
