Ok well lemme just tell you how I fail at making a character.
I got an elf, looka, and at first I was thinking pure range so I started refining and stopped at rank E. Then I was like ok lemme just rank up a few range type skills and ended up ranking range, mag, and mirrage missile to rank 9 (I'm so dumb ><)
So I decided to make range my fallback and go all Mage... I'm pure Mage now and waiting until tommorow to rebirth and rank up musical knowledge and other int giving skills. Should I still rank up refine? Did I fudge up my character? Oh and my windmills rC, I know the importance and all but I literally never use it ._.
So and tips or some help with what I should do/ shouldn't do?
Ty in advanced ^^

My advice: rank golem and AM.
All problems will be solved.
Okay but seriously, if you don't want to get WM to 9 or 5 at least do refine to r2 (fails complete) then go from there

It is fine for an elf to ignore WM if you don't ever use it. Only rank refine if you pick up range. Otherwise, start getting your basic bolts and music theory for int.

As an elf, you only really need to r1 WM for the will stat... r9 works perfectly for defensive purposes, and the upper ranks will only give you a bit more spacing.
If you don't plan on ranking any range skills any time soon, you shouldn't need to worry about refine. If you get to the point where life skills that give Intelligence are also boosting up your dex a little too much, it won't be too late to turn back and finish refine at that point.
Just do musics/bolts for INT and rank up Thunder or Ice Spear, specialization early on will only be beneficial to your character build. Weak range is not a good fallback if you already have strong Magic, it's better to get as far as you can with Magic and then switch focus to range once you're satisfied with your skill ranks as a mage.

This helped me a lot I think I know what I'm gonna do :D ( my best mabi-friend is an epic pure Mage so i'm set xD)
again thanks ^^

Ok like what? No offence but alchemy golems and stuff is so dumb IMO.
It's like the summoner RELIES on it o.o
plus I don't like alchemy for the fact that the damage is limited because it doesn't go by stats.

See where I'm going with this?
For a mere 327 AP (r1 AM and golem) you pretty much get a summon as strong as an endgame melee character.
A very good deal in my book. I'm not saying that you should just rank AM/Golem and be done with it, but it should give you enough firepower to spam Ciar Adv (along w/ some barrier spikes) to level up faster in order to rank range or any other skills you want.

But hell, if you want to skip out on Golem, so be it. It's your character.

JUST FYI.... THEIR PLANNING ON NERFING GOLEMS ^^ just thought you should know
"GA: Golem is the origin for reduced party play enjoyment and conflict among players. Balancing it soon?
J: We looked at the feedback and this is indeed a problem. We are thinking of changing the skill.
M: Since long time ago, we were planning to nerf it, but we felt bad for players who ranked it so we were in direction of reducing number of golem crystals. We are not sure about balancing the skill, but the golem size will definitely go down."
GA is gameabout
J=Jo De-eng Hyun
I hope they do more then nerf # of crystals.. or success i hope they lower the dmg of golems down to 3k max wm crit from rank golem rank 1 alchemy mast otherwise theres no point in even ranking combat skills
Then again ... have you ever seen some 1 use a golem in a duel (a high total level duel)
Or nerf the exp shared between golem and user... to 20% to user
golem kills monster worth 1000 exp
User gets 200
seems fair to me for something so easily overpowered

I think that information is pretty old if I recall correctly and was already implemented... Golem size did go down as of G13, but then it ended up becoming even larger due to the new cylinders and mastery. I think they also adjusted the drops for fine/finest stones so that finest would be a little less common, while fine would be slightly more common.
Also, here's some firsthand information about Summon Golem as of G14 from a poster in the Nexon Forums:
Jahrakal:
Since the topic of Golem popped up I'll add a few things (again, I have an elf who has rank 1 Golem, rank 1 Alchemy Mastery, and rank 1 Clay Alchemy Mastery).
My golem is so big that 1 windmill can cover the entire orb room of Defeat Shadow Wizard, or any regular dungeons for that matter.
My golem is so big that I can't even see anything above its legs (you will need zoom mods, but I don't use one).
My golem is so big that I can put my elf 'inside' the golem and nothing would ever touch me while I shred everything with Golem Windmill.
Someone said you Smash with golem? Lol, don't make me laugh. Once you get to 1/1/1, you spam Windmill and nothing else as your golem will literally never get hit unless you are new at controlling golems.
My Magic Golem with 1/1/1 lasts over 30 minutes. That's enough time for you to go take a --- and shower and fix a sandwich afterwards.
But.
Golem is very f---ing boring. Even though along with r1 Barrie Spike I can solo any dungeon/missions except for Peaca Int, I find it too easy and boring, whereas playing with my 4.5k human give me more dynamic feeling to the battle. That's why I spend more time here on NA server with my human.
Golem is very easy to train. It took me less than 24 hours to get to r1 Golem, and I didn't spend more than 500k for White Herbs.
Golem's power doesn't come from its stats, but its size. In Korea, for the Elite Missions, the only accepted "Golemer" is 1/1/1 or rarely 1/1/2(AM).

Just showing a comparision of golem sizes I found on a blog since it's been brought up.

I myself am training an newbie elven mage, I basically did everything that radionoise described then lived off of rafting for experience\exploration levels when I got thunder and magic mastery to a decent rank. After that I just used the ap\gold I gathered there to build up my other magic skills and rank refine to rank 2 on the side.

Alchemy needs a hardcore nerf.
Work on windmill/refine while you can. Choose the Knight class in G13 in order to speed up windmill training. The price of ore is pretty cheap at the moment, at least in Alexina. Critical hit when possible. Lightning bolt is the most useful bolt spell, unless you plan on chaincasting firebolt. Work your way up to Ice Spear, since you're an elf or Thunder. You'll need a lot of intelligence come G13, so work on the intelligence boosting musical life skills.

Well, nexon is going to keep making new skills.. For a while, so basically you're gonna keep getting more dex and if there's one thing I've learned about elf range is it's the most fudging unreliable skill ever. xD
Well I have a giant.... Alchemist and yeah golemn rC alchemy mastery rF... He's more of a failchamist xD
and my human is melée and yeah r5 wm bleh bleeeh
what I'm trying to say is I know a most info on all the types of fighting so yea.. I do too much research but there's so much to learn. xD I'm starting to question what I'm saying ._. idk it's 3:00 am here o.o

Still can't use that argument... remember what they did with Clay Alchemy Mastery?
You just never know.

Thunder is better than fireball. Unless you ALWAYS party. Thunder is better for rafting anyway.
