There was a thread on MabiGuru, but everyone knows how it died. Dumb Google.
I found a Stiff Considerate Mace yesterday, (YES!) and now I'm thinking about dual-wielding. I probably won't find another Stiff for a while, so it's Mace vs Iron Maces.
Mace
+I have one with stiff
-Less Attack (by a bit?)
-Looks small on giants. xD (Not really a -, but whatever)
Iron Mace
+Higher attack (by a bit?)
+Looks big on giants (which is a good thing)
The not having one with stiff isn't really a negative, it's neutral.
So what do you think I should use? Eventually, I know it's my choice, but I want to see what the nation thinks. I want to go for Iron Mace, because how good is Critical anyway? It's chance. I just want the opinions.

You need a new icon!
Anywho... Iron Maces are much like Maces, but they have lower balance and higher damage. Also, I'm looking at some of these upgrade paths on the wiki and the critical rates look similar. The 238-Mace though (which is the highest Max and highest Balance) has 0% crit, while the highest damage Iron Mace (195) has 12%.
I say stick to Stiff Fierce Maces. Giant can dual-wield them and they're a handy beginner weapon for all races, really. I stuck with Maces all throughout my initial year in Mabinogi and I still wield a Mace+Shield today. It's just so efficient, IMO. Protects ya from the bad guys and gets the job done.
Dual-wield Stiff Fierce Maces should be strong for you. Iron Maces are more end-game (high Dex, high Balance), especially that ego Iron Mace.
My vote goes for the Maces.

But Phunk! I'm not about to get enchants anytime soon! Not pro enough! And my stiff is Stiff Considerate already. :\\
And I do need a new icon, but I'm dealing with derp eyes.

Silly goose. I voted for the Maces, not the Iron Maces.
Stiff Fierce Maces drop from the chest reward in Rundal, if I remember correctly.

i say iron maces, they are higher damaging which means they'll last you a long time and you really should spend money on shop maces get ones that come from mob drops, they're much better. and i say go for the path that doesn't give 0% crit there is a path i believe thats ?-84 max 15% crit 36% balance? (mabi wiki is down atm) go for that path which is what i have atm and you should be good.
I always say dont go for the bare minimum. Oh and it doesn't take much dext to use these my giant only has 65% balance and his dext is only 55 so just rank prod mast and refine to rA or even prod mast to 5 and counter to r1 and you'll have 80% balance.
also phunk its ciar int norm, thats where they drop from.

Raj is just starting out again. (Are you?)
His Dex is not so great and chances are his Balance won't be 80% with the Iron Maces. He should do Refine before ranking Production Mastery so far like that btw.
Maces are free and they drop from [S]Rundal[/S] Ciar Inter** (Stiff Fierce). Critical is good too.
Edit: Oops. Stiff Hat is what you can get from Rundal.

i think refine and prod mast should be ranked side by side. rank prod mast to r9 then when he does refining at r5-1 stat ranking prod mast from 9 to 1 since hes going to need it out of the way anyway its what i've done on my other characters and as long as he does all the fails first, even at r2 you have to make so many so if he does prod mast 9-1 at just ranks 3 and 2 he could knock out 2 needed skills at once.

Yeah, restarting in Tarlach. But, isn't Ciar Inter pretty, advanced? I'm level 18 still holding Eiry!
(And oh, I get it now. My bad at the above post)

Mace > Iron Mace unless you're talking about ego weapons. The critical path for the Iron Mace has less critical than the critical path for the Mace and not enough damage to make up for it... the max damage path for the Iron Mace has lackluster critical and will need a lot of dex to get 80% balance on it.
Critical is good for giants because they have a really fast Smash, and being able to critical with it is extremely helpful.

I love how you're an elf, but know so much about giants as well...;;
I would go Stiff Fierce Mace, since it's easy to get (Just note that I can solo Ciar int on my level 30 MULE. Just duel wield and avoid multiaggro. Other than that, just buy from a player who's willing to help.)
If you're worried about Balance, don't. The 238(Not sure if this is the one) upgrade for Mace has plenty of Balance that worked out for me even before duel wielding (on human) so you'll be set.

Upgrade path 250 for Stiff Mace of Fierce is pretty good. Gives it 38% Critical and 1~72 max damage with 9 durability and 45% Balance, which pretty much outdoes upgrade path 222 unenchanted Broadsword. This kind of Mace will serve you well for a long time in your early days. I can get nearly 60% Critical on my Giant with just this Mace itself and stats, while maintaining over 200 max damage.
As for Mace vs. Iron Mace? Besides Balance, you'll have to ask yourself if you use Windmill a lot. If you do, max damage Iron Mace can pretty much cater to your needs, provided your Balance with it is 50% or higher. If you're going to Smash a lot, you'll need some Critical, which Mace generally provides more, while maintaining a good max damage.

Get R9 Refine at least and then get Iron Maces. Use your already enchanted maces until you do.
Too bad you're not on Mari or I'd help you with enchanting. For Iron Maces, you'll probably want Stiff Fierce from your previous maces which isn't hard to get fortunately. The only problem is that Stiff is r9 and you'll need a rA prefix. Hamster from Rabbie party boss, Hesitant from Iria Exploration, there's a quite a few easily acquired rA enchants.
