Why not just put Alchemy on that char? Unless you plan on playing two accounts, which is good if you free RB. If you free RB then go for it.

Making a separate character? Seems like a waste. Just get alchemy for your main.

I agree with Endless and Zack, just start alchemy on your main.

Summon Golem, Frozen Blast, Life Drain and Barrier Spikes are all extremely beneficial to elf range... and very powerful skills in their own right, so it wouldn't really be a waste if you have AP to spare. Alchemy Mastery also gives significant MP/Stam boosts, so it helps with Crash Shot/Magnum spam.

Personally, I would start an alt and get r9 flame/water real quick and test them under combat situations to see if that type of fighting is fun/engaging/useful to me... if it is, then why not just rank it on your main?
I would try Flameburst first... its damage is low at earlier ranks, but if you have decent Critical Hit ranks it can be very useful where your magnum can't cut through the enemies' protection.

It really doesn't matter if it is useless or not. An extra skill on your main just means your main has one more additional way to kill monsters. (Or just another activity to keep you busy on that character)
While some alchemy skills gives +stamina, which is good for melee/archers, many doesn't give anything.

True, although the more uses you have for the skill the more likely you are to implement it in combat strategies and have fun with it.

Didn't want to start a new thread - and for anyone who stumbles upon here:
How good is pure alchemy? How much does it cost to get started? Should a beginner look into it?

How good is it? Most Alchemy skills aren't based on stats as melee/range/magic, so once they are r1, it is hard to raise their damage outside of enchants.
It takes a Cylinder and a few Water Crystals to get started on Water Cannon. For the other alchemist skills, just get the required stuff to start. Sure, a beginner could look into it. I don't see why not.
The most important skill to an alchemist is Alchemy Mastery, which requires nearly as much grinding as Windmill (if not more). That might scare some beginners away though.

It depends on the skill... Alchemy is very beginner friendly overall, and costs for the main offensive attacks consist of only stamina potions and NPC crystals.
Summon Golem is by far the most bang for your buck in the game, but it does take a lot of effort to get to r1 along with the mastery. Outside of Summon Golem, however, I find that alchemy has poor multi-aggro control in certain situations unless you have Shock, and that skill is quite hard to obtain... Barrier Spikes are a good alternative, but your mobility is limited by them.
The way I see it, Alchemy is a very good skillset on its own, but is even more powerful when paired with another branch of combat. Mabi is all about ranking the skills you like, though, and Alchemy does have the advantage of letting you choose which ones to specialize in instead of having to rank them all.
