It seems amazing, but I see most high level videos features Fionas using large shields (which means that maybe it isn't that great?).
How much damage does it do? Is the knockdown as good as counterattack?
Does it break your shield too quickly to be viable on hard bosses?

From what I know, it depends on the monster. If it uses nothing but smash attacks, a large shield would be better as you can't counter smashes. If it has "some" normal attacks, you can counter away. Counterattack DOES eat your shield for breakfast though, which is one reason why Campfires are so effective for Fiona.

I don't think you fully understand what I'm asking.
Heavy Stander counterattack is a skill that allows you to counter smashes, but it's not yet implemented to our servers. I wanted to ask players who
have experienced it how good it was.
If you can counter smashes, why do people still use large shields unless the counterattack isn't that good?

I don't have experience on the KR servers, but I'm assuming it's because you can block multiple smashes with one heavy stander, and a lot of later bosses I've seen, it looks like this would be necessary. Also, later you get counterattack with large shield anyway (from what I've heard, a lot).

If a boss has a chain smash like a 3-4 hit combo and you tried to counter off the first hit of a chain, you might get punished real hard. I suppose it'll take a lot of skill to perform successfully all the time.

Without a large shield, blocking a smash attack knocks you back. I don't know how far you've gotten, but against the Red Tyrant, even if you block his upwards paw swipe, thanks to that knock back, he'll fall on top of you before you can recover. I haven't seen any HS counterattack videos to know if a HS counter takes less time to execute than a HS block does. Otherwise Retcher and Kenero are right--against bosses with chain smashes, you'll pretty much need a large shield to tank hits.

The flyback is a time of invulnerability. The moment you become vulnerable again is the moment you can pull off a second heavy stander. In your situation, I've been able to pull off two heavy standers, and not be hit by that combo.
Edit: I've seen a few videos of it, and there's something that's painfully obvious once you notice it. It's horribly slow to HS Counter. You fly forward, and you get a slow animation of hitting the monster. I don't know if there is any midway stop, so I'm guessing this would have to be planned very well.

I see. Thanks everybody, I think I would enjoy the challenge of timing counters over just turtling though.

Counter with large shields what? Seriously? Anyone confirm?

Of the videos I've seen of the HS counter, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of knockdown on it either. afkalmighty was able to use it 6 times on Gnoll Chieftain without knocking it down >_> which kinda says something about how good it is for knocking things down.

Maybe it does a lot of damage? Some of the videos I've seen seem to imply that it does a little more than a kick.

It's more of a utility skill that lets you get right back to the boss after blocking a smash with a small shield.
