I don't think a simple sorry would ever earn my forgiveness.

First thing that comes to mind is Shawshank Redemption.

2.5m doesn't seem enough for 30 years of not seeing your family, friends and not receiving any education. I mean, the guy is over 50 now, that's more than half of your life wasted.

**** like this happens all the time.
Sadly, we don't catch most of them, so theres still a ton of people in jail that are innocent, and a ton of them who die never seeing the world again.
You're not just losing your friends and family. You're losing a life.
2.5 mil is definitely not enough. But I suppose thats enough money to live the rest of your short remaining life in a luxurious retirement.

Especially considering his parents died in there
I think I'd never forgive
money doesn't repay for years of your life that you have lost.
