There are three primary reasons to keep a facebook account.
1. Contacts. Its the easiest way to make sure you do not lose people.
Your 10th grade math teacher. Your 4th grade classmate. Your coworker from that job you hated doing 5 years ago. You add them as your friend, but they're not really your "friends". Facebook serves as a contact book for everyone whom you have made a decent amount of acquaintanceship with. These people are all RESOURCES and possibly insurances. How you use them is your decision, but its better to have their contact than not. Of course, it also helps keep track of your closer friends as well.
2. Business and Work. Its very useful.
Facebook is a powerful took for work, business, and school. I don't think I have to get into this very much. Making notices between employees, setting up a study meet for students, sharing information required by your activity, a boss scanning his potential employee's page as a pre-screening measurement, it all exists and its your fault if you're not in on it. It will happen, and if you're not a part of it, you're missing out on possible benefits.
There are also business pages and advertisements that does wonders.
3. Facebook has all the features you need and don't need.
Your privacy settings are up to YOU. What kind of privileges a "friend" gets is up to YOU. How you use it is up to YOU. If you're quitting facebook on grounds that it violates your privacy, you really didn't look into the options the website offers. If you're quitting facebook because you're convinced that you waste too much time on it, remember that facebook is just another social website, like this one. Its not facebook's fault, its your fault.

Oh, the facebook message notification sound. One of the reasons I almost never log on.

I don't use Facebook like that, but I liked how he was in an Asian country. XD All of them were giving him looks as to what he was doing.
Looked like a green-screen to me.
OT: Cucu basically sums it up.

you need to keep in mind that most people use it moderately. Don't just use yourself as a model to identify with the video, use people you know and don't know as a whole, and stereotypes.
the issue like with all things is excess. The guy in the video nailed that part. I'm already seeing studies popping up about how excessive facebook usage is correlated with low self esteem, among other things.
i use it functionally. I have a lot of friends where regular contact is impossible due to graduations or moves and whatnot, so besides MSN its my only means of arranging things or keeping in touch.
edit.. tho its hardly ever the tool to blame. what kills people? the gun or the person?

Sadly enough, I have know people who are like the stereotypical 'omg best nite evr with my bffs xxx' facebook users.
[Image: http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww258/Liraiyu/WhydoIknowthesepeople.jpg]
(Taken from my facebook). Every single post that guy makes is like that. Imagine 2 posts minimum a day. Now imagine several people, all doing that.
It's stupid.
I use facebook for talking to people and organizing things. That's all. If I try read the recent news thing, I just end up laughing as how some people appear to type by rolling their hands on the keyboard and hoping it forms a sentence.

I don't think I have that many friends that do that. If they do it, it's when I don't run into it, thank goodness.

o.o I think I have something like 50 friends maybe and a lot of them are just close online friends or classmates from high school that I didn't mind. I never accepted anyone I didn't like or know. And seriously, "roflmao" and "LOL" were around waaaaaay before Facebook.
Honestly, I don't really think it's that big of a deal. I used to go on it a lot (for Facebook games) but it's just as easy to go off. It's like any other thing on the computer you can get addicted to, and then get not addicted to. Facebook is a good stalkingtooltousecough but only if you allow so. =P

I have a Facebook account but I never use it. Idle talk is meaningless.
People need to stop worrying so much about other peoples business.

^ He's cyoote. I wonder if he rolls on my side of the street.
But really, though, some people are ridiculous with these online sites and texting. I'm a computer addict and
I'm not even as bad as some people I've seen.
That and texting are just.. yeesh.

I have to be reminded to check facebook to accept close friends, friend requests.
They're like "Oh yea I added you on facebook." Me: "Oh.... I didn't know" and in my mind i'm thinking 'but i see you everyday anyway...'
And it's funny, when I was in high school I had alot more friends than I do now. I guess through my years of inactivity, alot of people either deleted thier profiles or deleted me from their friendlist but the sad thing is, I can't even think of who deleted me.
Cause looking at the friend list I have now I can't picture anyone missing who I would actually care was gone.
