Yes, the character is an old man
but he's being depicted as a father, not a pretty boy. (at least in the US releases)

From what the cat read, this is a very dark story.
Where a father go through great lengths to cure his daughter of a disease.
The cat never read any farther than that so don't ask.
People are actually praising the story so it might be at least enjoyable.

Kotaku described the combat to be like a hack and slash
magic is deemed uninteresting until you get a variety.

Bosses are said to be bad on 1st playthrough but different in multiple playthroughs

They also mentioned a good soundtrack but the cat hasnt listened to it yet

the PS3 version in Japan is different
the guy is instead a 17 year old pretty boy who saves his sister (who is the daughter in the version we know)

Both the xbox and PS3 in US feature the older man as they feel he's more of an appealing character to westerners

I saw the nier replicant ads on nico a few weeks ago.
They were haunting to say the least.
So I googled it and read up on wiki.
