Most forums think necroposting is bad....but I think its good because it won't cause repeating threads to occur....your thoughts?

However, old thread information can get outdated, thus making a lot of the content useless and unnecessary.

I used to use a monthly Forum thread cleaning system.
..In other words, me just deleting all old and unneeded threads.
Otherwise, we just promoted use to the Search button.

But what if someone has a urge to reply at something they think is funny but the thread thats in it is old?

I agree the necro limit should be up'd a bit. We did fine back on my forum with a 4~5 month nerco limit and regular cleanings.
But I guess it all depends.

You would need to give me an example. If it was just a joke it wouldn't be necessary to bump an ancient Egyptian thread to say "that's funny." By doing so you would awaken the many mummies of old information.

I posted on a old thread the post someone did was "You just activated my trap card!" and that made me rethink of the Yugioh days so I replied "I activate my magic card Monster reborn! *summons Tarlach/winged dragon of ra*" thats when I got a friendly warning on necroposting

And do you think it was necessary? Did it provide useful information that was related to the meaning of the thread?

To me it depends. If its on an old news report, spam, or something like that, it should not be necro'd. But, if it's on a discussion and you know for a fact this is still going on and you have something to say/ask, then go for it and necro it. It's better to do that IMO because people won't have to come and re discuss what has already been discussed.

Invalid reason to necro IMO. Just random spam. Make a new thread in Bean Rua talking about Yugioh.

At least the person who warned you was friendly *chuckles*.
But, no really, the thread was from October, and your post held no significance to the topic what-so-ever.
We do allow necro-posting in guides/sticky posts. :D

I think it's only okay if it's a discussion/help thread and you can make a good contribution to the topic. Otherwise, it's just spam.
Also, I thought necroing and reviving were two different things o.o sorry I'm not too big on internet stuff @_@ I thought REVIVING was taking an old thread and bumping it by making a decent post that's relevent to the topic. I thought necroing was bumping an old topic with a post that's kinda useless and shouldn't have been posted.

Necroposting is a sin.
But seriously, 6/10 times the person isn't smart enough to check the date of the thread. The other 4/10, they think they have something to contribute but they really don't.

Well I like threads that were made for necroposting. Look for
"The Amazing Bump."

That's not a good example because bumping spam threads are fine. As long as you don't overdo it.

At mention of that I feel like resurrecting the numerous threads that had Kazuni as their title.... I have no idea why....
