Lol. I've had houses for over a year now and for me, they've always been pretty expensive. It doesn't matter which housing district it's in and what type of house (well I haven't tried the 80k tax ones), or where it is in the housing district. There were a couple times I cycled through literally 10-12 houses, bidding 700k-800k for them and occasionally 900k-1 mil, but never got them. I don't know if I just unluckily happen to have my house expire with all the high bidders or something, but yeah. My friend also has to pay a lot to get a house. Or maybe Mari's just overpriced in housing. =P
I'd rather pay more to get a house sooner than to wait a couple days to a week to get a cheaper house, since we only lose 10% and time is money. 8D -coughmorelikeneedthespace-

Sadly, our houses are easily outbidded because they're so low sometimes like 100k. Cheap houses are pretty lucky to not get outbid though...Most of the houses in Dugald/Sen Mag I find are unpopulated so I doubt many people would outbid at all. oxo

I bid like 300/350K in Abb Neagh on the Alexina server. The other house districts seem like they're harder to get a place in. x_x I haven't had premium in a while so I haven't had a house either. *sigh*~

I always bid 1mil on a brick house, get it about 90% of the time. If you don't mind the taxes (about 40k extra per week for dugald mari), then going for brick houses can save you a load of trouble.
As it is, 40k is pretty easy to earn if you are 1k+, and to be honest I just like brick houses for the color customization~
