Not worth it IMO. Your skill points would be wiser used elsewhere.
You don't use skill points...you use points from soul of darkness to rank it and if you have r1 everything else then may as well throw that to r1.

Its only worth ranking after every other passive there is, and even then I wouldn't use it.

Oh, I don't call them skill points which is why I was like what in heck are you saying.
However, I would still say throw points into it once you rank everything else cause at that point what else are you going to do? Let the points sit there

Well, yeah, obviously you would rank that if you already have everything at r1. I meant in my original post that you should focus on ranking the other skills first.

I'm pretty sure this skill is pretty useless from a practical stand point.
Also from my tests almost everything related to success rate on wiki was wrong.
At 105% success chance according to the formula I failed 60%~ of the time on gray foxes at rank F out of 10 attempts.
With 2 red scars I still failed 60%~ of the time on gray foxes out of 10 attempts.
With so much -CP my CP was reduced to 1, I also still failed 60%~ of the time on gray foxes out of 10 attempts.
So either my luck was really weird or cp gear doesn't even effect it.

I've been a strong believer that cp gear doesn't affect success rate for CoD based on numerous trials both with and without cp equips.
But ya, the formula on the wiki is inaccurate but then again it was a player derived formula that was based on guess work.

Ok, despite everyone telling me it's a waste of time, I'm still for some reason held up on the issue ^^:: I took my friend's DK out for a spin. She's Rank F CoD, CP 671 give or take, and I went out and tamed some stuff around Dunbarton (Gray Town Rats, Brown Dire Wolf Cub, A few Spiders, and a Red Grizzley Bear Cub). All of them submitted with just one scroll, even the bear. The only thing that wouldn't go was the Brown Grizzly bear I tried to tame. I'm thinking maybe some more study should go into the skill because that was pretty easy to get a whole mob of things together. I dunno, just seems like the success rates may be way up compared to what you remember. Maybe you should try taming that Balrog again XP

It's pretty useless, haha. It's why I'm against Paladins having their own special skill because Control of Darkness is so useless; might as well not have it.
I'm very inclined to believe Control of Darkness's formula is similar to Taming, since I can also vouch that CP relationship is invalid at best, and that generally targets with higher CP takes more scrolls to control.

May as well. It takes time clicking that train button and assigning skill points to it. That time could be spent... I dunno... killing stuff, earning gold... watching anime. Watching anime or moving points into control of darkness would both have equal effect in making your character stronger. anime probably more entertaining than clicking a couple of buttons pointlessly though.

The fact that Paladin's don't have an active skill after all this time still bothers me. It's not even like they have anything spectacular to make up for it. Near as I've bee able to tell the only thing Paladin's have that no other transformation has is Defense stat boosts. That's it. Also, why after all this time do Paladins still need to do the book of Paladin to get their defenses? I mean really? We can't alter this at all? I mean sure once you've done it on one character the issue is done, but personally I've grown like, 5 paladins and it's a littler irritating knowing that Giants and Elves get their automatically (though their entire quest is just as painful) and DK's get them automatically if they don't have them when they convert. Lazy gits XP

You have it wrong. The HIGHER the CP you have the EASIER it is to use CoD on stronger enemies. Grab yourself a black scar longbow and try it.
Enemies that are WEAKEST, WEAK and NORMAL to you are the easiest to control. Strong, awful and boss level enemies are difficult to control, thus needing more goes. My advice to anyone is: make sure you have high enough cp so that the enemy you are trying to control appears either WEAK or WEAKEST to you.
