Sonic Fan Remix is, well, a remix. I like the look too, but this is staying true to the original game. Given that Sonic 2 is one of my favorite stand-alone Sonic games, I'd prefer they leave it alone as much as possible. And that seems to be exactly what they did.

Most of the original Sonic Team, especially Yuji Naka, Naoto Oshima, and Hirokazu Yasuhara haven't been at SEGA for years. They probably have some ownership over the older titles that prevents SEGA from doing something like this. More importantly, though, if the heart of Sonic Team is gone, how do you expect them to make quality Sonic games?
